Today, NASCAR goes left and right with some elevation mixed in. Sonoma Raceway is a 1.99-mile course located in Sonoma, California. Road course racing is set to begin for the American stock car racing series.

Kyle Larson and Martin Truex Jr will lead the field to the start. 25 laps in stage one, 25 more in stage two and 60 laps in stage 3 will complete the 110 lap race.

Stage 1
Sonoma Raceway

Green flag, Kyle Larson gets the jump. Martin Truex Jr still has his nose to the inside into turn 1. Larson is clear at the top of the hill for turn 2. The field makes it through the roller coaster without any off track excursions.

Lap 3, Michael McDowell and Erik Jones bang doors into turn 7. Meanwhile, in turn 11, Martin Truex is looking for the lead. He dives to the inside. Larson doesn’t fight it, Truex leads at the line.

Lap 5, AJ Allmemdinger is shining. He comes from way back to outbreak Larson. Allmendinger to 2nd. Larson is fading. Yesterday, he said he’s fast here but doesn’t have long run speed.

“I’m trying to save as much as I can. But, he’s driving away from me,” Allmendinger radio.

Lap 14, Truex leads Allmendinger by 3.4 seconds. Harvick is all over Allmendinger for 2nd. Harvick pulls to his bumper under braking into turn 4. Harvick jumps the outside curb and drives to the outside off turn 4. Harvick takes over 2nd.

4 to go in stage 1, Harvick is running down the leader. Truex leads by just over a second. Kurt Busch, Hamlin, McMurray, Logano all head for pit road.

3 to go, Harvick has caught Martin Truex Jr. They both head for pit road! AJ Allmendinger is handed the lead. Harvick and Truex exit the pits side by side. Harvick has the inside, he leads into turn 1. Truex takes the position back in turn 4.

AJ Allmendinger takes the stage win by 3 seconds over Brad Keselowski.

Stage 2
Sonoma Raceway

The rest of the field hits the pit lane. Allmendinger loses 4 spots on pit road with chassis adjustments. Truex and Harvick will lead the field to the restart.

Truex gets the jump on the outside. He clears Harvick going up the hill. Keselowski takes Elliott and Larson 3 wide into turn 7, +2 for Keselowski. Keselowski is on the move, he looks to the inside of Dillon in turn 2, Dillon shuts the door and sends Keselwoski into the dirt.

Lap 34, AJ Allmendinger is up in smoke out of turn 12. “I blew it up,” Allmendinger radio. He tried to shirt to 3rd and went to 1st gear instead. The caution is out as Allmendinger is stopped on the track. McMurray has issues as well, he heads to the garage.

Green, Truex is clear of Harvick up the hill. Bowyer and Kurt Busch fight for space into turn 1. They bang fenders in turn 2. Bowyer pulls to his outside off turn 4, Bowyer takes 3rd away.

Lap 40, Kevin Harvick is on the deck lid of Truex for the lead of the race. Harvick is looking, he’s there. Harvick to the lead.

6 to go in stage 2, Bubba Wallace is around in turn 11. He wheel hopped while trying to make a pass on the inside. No caution and no damage.

4 to go, 10+ cars head for the pit lane. 3 to go, Harvick, Truex and Bowyer head for the pits as well. The lead is passed to Denny Hamlin. Harvick is now coasting around the track to save every bit of the tire.

Denny Hamlin wins stage 2 at Sonoma Raceway!

Stage 3
Sonoma Raceway

The remaining cars hit the pit lane. Chase Elliott is the first car off the pit lane. Hamlin lost 3 positions on pit road. Elliott restarts 17th. Kevin Harvick and Truex will lead them to the restart.

Green, Harvick leads into turn 2. Clint Bowyer looks to the inside of Truex for 2nd. Truex holds him off as Bowyer catches the curb and the rear end steps out.

50 to go, Harvick leads Truex by 2 seconds.

40 to go, green flag pit stops have begun. Truex has closed within two cars of the leader.

38 to go, Cole Pearn tells Truex, “Pit now, pit now!” Harvick heads to the pit lane. Cole Pearn jumps on the radio again, “Stay out, stay out!” Truex and Bowyer remain on the track. Cole Pearn might have just baited Kevin Harvick to the pit lane.

“The #78 faked us out,” Rodney Childress on the #4 radio.

36 to go, Bowyer is in. 31 to go, Bowyer is all over the back bumper of Harvick. This is a race for 8th. Bowyer is aggressive on the curbs as Harvick shuts the door through turn 8.

30 t0 go, Truex heads for the pit lane. Kurt Busch remains on the track, he cycles to the lead. Truex enters the track in 7th. 29 to go, Kurt Busch to the pit lane. Erik Jones to the lead. 28 to go, Erik Jones to the pit lane.

Kevin Harvick has cycled bac to the lead, Bowyer trails by a full second. Truex runs 3rd, he’s 7 full seconds from the leader but he’s running a second a lap quicker than Harvick. Truex’s tires are 8 laps fresher than Harvick’s.

22 to go, Truex has caught Clint Bowyer. Truex looks to the inside off turn 2. Clint Bowyer gives it to him down the hill and into turn 3. 2 second up the road sits Kevin Harvick.

20 to go, Truex has caught Harvick. Truex looks to the inside heading into turn 11. No challenge, Truex to the lead. Kyle Busch heads for the pit lane. Kevin Harvick and Clint Bowyer head for the pit lane!

That stop was not planned, they are adjusting based on the circumstances. Harvick and Bowyer now need a caution. Harvick is 39 seconds behind Truex.

15 to go, Truex leads, Elliott is 2nd and Harvick is up to 3rd. Harvick just turned the fastest lap of the race.

10 t0 go, Chase Elliott kicks up dust exiting turn 2. Harvick is getting bigger in his mirror.

9 to go, Chase Elliott and Harvick split the lap car of Justin Marks. Harvick takes over 2nd heading into turn 3. Truex leads by 24 seconds.

3 to go, Truex leads Harvick by 16 seconds.
