Bloomquist was seen by doctors on Tuesday

Scott Bloomquist is now scheduled to get an MRI today in Tennessee

UPDATE BELOW: Bloomquist has been cleared to race

At Eldora Speedway, Scott Bloomquist slipped on the wet grounds. Falling backwards, he caught his fall via the tongue of his trailer.

That twisted his arm behind him. The result was larger tear to the front of his shoulder. In addition, it also tore the top of his shoulder backward.

The shoulder already had tears from previous racing related injuries. The fall only made things much worse.

Bloomquist’s doctor had previously requested the driver go under surgery. To date, he’s been putting that on hold. The fall just brought the need for surgery to the forefront of his attention.

After Eldora, Team Zero ventured to Lernerville Speedway. He spun out in the heat race following contact with another competitor. That accident again hurt Bloomquist’s arm.

He returned to the pits and told the crew to load it up. Bloomquist then left the speedway and set up meeting with his doctor.

On Tuesday, Bloomquist had X-rays done on his arm. Today, an MRI is scheduled.

“Scott was seen by doctors today in Tennessee, X-rays were taken and an MRI has been scheduled for Wednesday. Surgery will likely be within the next 2 weeks. Doctors indicated a 5-7 month recovery time,” the team released a statement via social media.

The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series is scheduled to run 13 races over a 3 week period. It’s the busiest month on the schedule. Bloomquist is currently 2nd in the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series championship standings.

Bloomquist has stated that he plans to pull himself for the car and place a driver in the #0 seat for select races. If he’s out for 5 months, that clear him just in time for the Gateway Dirt Nationals. If he’s out for 7 months, that will clear him just weeks ahead of the 2018 racing season.

In addition to time away from the car, Bloomquist has also been suspended by the World Racing Group for a minimum of 60 days and a maximum of 90. He missed two drug tests while away from the race track at both Eldora Speedway and Lernerville Speedway.

Bloomquist will likely serve the suspension while recovering from the pending surgery. However, he will still need to pass two drug tests within a 14-day period to be reinstated for WoO or UMP sanctioned events.

Update: June 29th, 2018

Last night, Team Zero posted an update following the MRI scan. This came just a day ahead of the Ohio swing which will feature four races in Ohio.

“Scott’s MRI results determined severe arthritis, he has been cleared to race the remainder of 2018 and will be reevaluated at the end of the season,” the statement read.
