Brad Keselowski issues a warning for rookie drivers that throw ‘bad blocks’

William Byron defends his block; Stenhouse apologizes for mistakes

Brad Keselowski: “You know, I’m just not wrecking enough people. I need to wreck more people so they’ll stop throwing bad blocks.”

It was a wild race under the lights last night at Daytona International Speedway. Multiple big crashes took out the majority of the field.

The first one could be taken two different ways. It was either a block gone wrong or aggressive driving on Stenhouse’s part. Either way, Brad Keselowski was in the middle both.

As William Byron pulled down the banking to block a big run from Keselowski, he jumped on the brakes. Behind him, Stenhouse ran over the #2 which sent Keselowski around in front of the field.

Ricky was pushing me. He didn’t do anything wrong. My fault,” Keselowski told NBC Sports after exiting the infield care center at Daytona International Speedway.

“You know, I’m just not wrecking enough people. I need to wreck more people so they’ll stop throwing bad blocks. And that’s what’s happening to me on the plate tracks.”

“Every other driver that’s watching. Throw another bad block. I’m just going to drive through you and wreck you. So, look out in Talladega.”

“There are times you can make a block, there are times you can’t. When you got a guy with a big enough run and you can’t throw a block. I made the mistake of lifting instead of wrecking [Byron] and that’s my fault. I take the blame.”

“You got a list of drivers that are making moves that are unqualified to make and it causes big wrecks. That was one of those. It was my fault because I lifted. I should have wrecked him and sent a message to the whole field,” Keselowski continued in post-race interviews.

“So we’ll wait until Talladega and every one of those rookie drivers or guys that don’t know what the hell they are doing we’ll drive through them and wreck them until they stop blocking us and we don’t have this problem no more.”

Bryon was the lead car in the incident. He pulled down from the top lane to block the run from Keselowski.

“He got hit from behind, so I didn’t get hit anywhere,” Byron said. “If he would’ve hit me, I would’ve tried to move or save it, but I never got hit. He just hit from behind me,” William Byron stated after the race.

“Everybody blocks as much as that, so I don’t see any difference in it. He got hit from behind,” Byron concluded.

Ricky Stenhouse Jr

Others placed the blame of Ricky Stenhouse Jr for getting into the back of Brad Keselowski as well as other incidents. Stenhouse issued a statement on his race via twitter.

“Well… not exactly how i thought it would go. My team had an unbelievable car. I Made too many mistakes that took out too many racecars. Hate the fans had to see their drivers get caught up in it. On the other hand my team fought hard and gave it all we got.”
