Gordy Gundaker ran a crate motor against the supers, maintaining Summer Nationals points

Gordy Gundaker almost skipped a Summer Nationals event due to motor issues, jumps in crate car instead

At Quincy Raceways, Gordy Gundaker lost a fan blade and hurt the motor. The initial plan was to park it and start working on repairs.

“Broke a fan blade last night at Quincy. Pretty sure the motor is hurt. Really hate it for our team who has come such a long way and just keep finding some bad luck. Part of racing! Race track last night was crazy rough,” Gundaker issued in a statement ahead of last night’s event.

The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series is rolling into Tri-City Speedway on Friday night. That’s the home track for Gordy Gundaker, a track owned by his father. Initially, he was parking it on the Hell Tour to make sure the car was fixed correctly for the LOLMDS event.

“We are going to regroup this week and hopefully be at the Lucas Oil race Friday at Tri City as we do not have another motor for tonight’s Summer nationals race at Lincoln. Thank you to my sponsors, crew, family, girlfriend, and all my fans who continuously support our team.”

However, the Summer Nationals is a big event too. That’s amplified as Gundaker sat 4th in points before the race last night at Lincoln Speedway. A race he planned to skip due to motor issues. There’s been 18 races in the last 30 days. Including last night, there was only a handful of dates remaining on the Hell Tour schedule.

Gordy Gundaker elected to change the plans just a few hours ahead of the race. Instead of skipping the event, he ran his brother’s crate car at Lincoln Speedway.

“So.. change of plans. We are going to Lincoln tonight and racing Trevor’s crate car to try and keep up with some points. We will have a motor back in our car for tomorrow and the rest of the summer nationals.”

“The continuous support is very humbling to me because it seems like every time something has gone wrong someone has stepped in to help. Without all of my sponsors, my crew, my family, my girlfriend Keely, my friends and all of my fans none of this would be possible. We will keep digging!”

Gordy Gundaker went on to run the crate car against the Supers at Lincoln Speedway. He finished 10th, maintaining his battle on the DIRTcar Summer Nationals points sheet.

Tonight, the tour heads to Shadyhill Speedway in Medaryville, IN. Gundaker is expected to have the super motor back for the remainder of the DIRTcar Hell Tour schedule.
