Ricky Stenhouse Jr confronts Kyle Busch (Video)

Ricky Stenhouse Jr told Kyle Busch to ‘pick his battles wisely’

Ricky Stenhouse Jr was involved in an incident with Brad Keselowski at the high banks of Daytona. The bump into turn 3 might have brought on by bad block from William Byron. However, contact between Stenhouse and Keselowski sent the #2 around in front of the field. Several cars were collected.

Only moments later, more cars were removed from the race in a separate incident. Ricky Stenhouse Jr clipped Kyle Busch in the left rear at Daytona International Speedway. This sent Kyle Busch and race leader William Byron off the race track with an ambulance ride and a tow truck.

After Daytona, Kyle Busch expected a call because Stenhouse ‘wiped out half the field.’ But, he didn’t. Kyle Busch stated his disappointment with that on Friday in the Kentucky Speedway media center.

Ricky Stenhouse Jr wasn’t pleased with those comments. Yesterday, Ricky Stenhouse Jr was knocked out of round 3 in qualifying. Stenhouse climbed from his car and walked over to the #18 who was just a few pit stalls away. Kyle Busch remained in his car as he was set to battle in the 3rd and final round for the pole at Kentucky Speedway.

Ricky Stenhouse Jr leaned into the window as Kyle Busch was looking at qualifying notes. He had a message for the #18. Stenhouse explained that conversation…

“Not really a change of heart. I just told him why I didn’t reach out,” Ricky Stenhouse Jr told NBC Sports of his pit road meeting with Kyle Busch.

“I felt like he ran his mouth enough on his radio. Then, after the race that I didn’t really have anything to say to him. I honestly feel like I normally do reach out to people when I make mistakes.”

Kyle Busch was very vocal on the radio just after the crash at Daytona. There was a whole vocabulary of bleeps involved in that radio communication as Kyle Busch sat wrecked on the apron of Daytona International Speedway.

“And I did make a mistake. But, with him running his mouth I just felt like I don’t really need to call him.”

“I just let him know that. I told him, ‘Hey you’re right. You do run a lot further up front but pick and choose your battles wisely. Because you will have to deal with me sometime whether you’re lapping me or if we get our cars better and we’re up there racing with you.’ ”

“I told him if he wanted to keep running his mouth he can come over and do it around me.”
