NASCAR Cup Series race results from New Hampshire Motor Speedway

Today, rain has pushed back the start of the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series event. After a 4 hours delay, we’re ready to go racing at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.

VHT is in groove one and groove 3. This track will change multiple times over the course of the race. 75 laps laps in stage 1, 75 laps in stage 2 and 151 in stage 3 will complete the 301 lap event.

Stage 1

Kurt Busch and Martin Truex Jr lead them to the green flag. Busch selects the outside lane.

Green flag, Kurt Busch leads off turn 2. Busch remains high in turn 3, Truex dives to the bottom but he can’t make it work. The top wins the battle, Kurt Busch leads lap 1.

Lap 10, Ryan Blaney is climbing to the front.

Landon Cassill is in the wall. He tore up a car earlier in the weekend. The small team just lost another one.

Lap 50, Martin Truex Jr to the lead. He leads Ryan Blaney on the restart as they fan out 3 wide behind them.

Lap 73, Joey Logano started 19th. He came to the pit lane on the last caution, almost by himself. After restarting at the tail, he’s now 9th as stage 1 is coming to a close.

Stage 2

The field hits the pit lane. Martin Truex Jr is first in and first off. Chase Elliott is out in 2nd.

Green flag on stage 2, Truex is clear of Chase Elliott before turn 1. Elliott fights back on the inside. The #9 slides to the wall off turn 2, right across the nose of Kyle Busch. Busch cuts to the inside and tries to fight the position in turn 3, Elliott holds 2nd.

Lap 110, Martin Truex Jr leads Chase Elliott by 1.5 seconds.

Lap 130, Martin Truex Jr is working lap traffic. He gets held up as the lap cars run side by side ahead of the leader. Truex looks to the outside of the lap cars off turn 4. Chase Elliott looks to the inside of the lap cars. They run 4 wide at the flag stand.

Lap 132, Chase Elliott drives deep on the inside in turn 1. He slides up the hill and takes over the outside lane. Truex crosses under him but he can’t make it stick. Chase Elliott to the lead! Kurt Busch gets by Truex as well.

6 to go in stage 2, Kurt Busch has climbed to the rear bumper of Chase Elliott. There’s a battle for the stage win coming. Elliott enters high and exits low. Busch enters low and exits high. Busch is trying to keep air on his nose in the corners, crossing lines mid corner.

2 to go, Elliott is catching lap traffic. 1 to go, Elliott works the lap cars. Kurt Busch drives it deep into turn 3, he can’t get to his bumper.

Chase Elliott wins stage 2 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway!

Stage 2 Results: 1. Chase Elliott; 2. Kurt Busch; 3. Martin Truex Jr; 4. Kevin Harvick; 5. Aric Almirola; 6. Kyle Busch; 7. Clint Bowyer; 8. Jimmie Johnson; 9. Ryan Blaney; 10. Joey Logano;

Stage 3

The field hits the pit lane. Kurt Busch wins the race off pit road by inches over Chase Elliott.

Green flag on stage 3, Kurt Busch leads on the outside of turn 1. Chase Elliott pulls to his door off turn 2 but he doesn’t have the momentum to complete the pass.

The bottom lane is coming in as the VHT wears off on the outside lane. The track is changing quickly as the race is coming to a close.

Lap 164, Kyle Busch made major adjustments on the last pit stop. He’s climbed from 11th to 6th since the restart.

85 to go, Kurt Busch is deep in lap traffic. His teammate, Aric Almirola is coming in a hurry. Aric Almirola dives to the inside, he boxes Busch in behind the lap cars. Aric Almirola to the lead! Stewart-Haas Racing runs 1st, 2nd and 3rd.

Brad Keselowski has major issues. “No brakes at all,” Keselowski radio.

79 to go, green flag pits stops are underway. Matt Kenseth gets the cycle started. 76 to go, Harvick and Truex are on pit road and Ricky Stenhouse Jr is in the wall with a flat tire. No caution. Kurt Busch and Ryan Blaney nearly collide on pit road. They didn’t instead they both stopped and lost time. 74 to go, Almirola is in.

Almirola is on the apron exiting pit road. Harvick is entering turn 1. They run side by side off turn 2. Harvick takes the lead. Short pitting puts the #4 at the head of the field.

70 to go, Harvick is working hard to stay on the lead lap. Hamlin takes the outside lane. Almirola is coming on the inside. Almirola takes the lead back from Harvick.

45 to go, Clint Bowyer is in the wall in turn 4. The caution is out. Mechanical failure and he caught the outside wall.

The field hits the pit lane. Almirola is off in 3rd. Kyle Busch jumps from 3rd to 1st, beating Kevin Harvick at the pit exit.

Green, Kyle Busch leads on the outside into turn 1. Aric Almirola stacks up the inside line. Busch, Harvick and Truex lead the field.

25 to go, Kyle Busch opens a gap on Harvick.

19 to go, Harvick’s had a long run car all day. It’s showing once more. Harvick is closing the gap to Kyle Busch.

15 to go, the leaders race through lap traffic.

10 to go, Kyle Busch drives it deep into turn 1. He wiggles as he skates up the race track. Harvick closes right to his rear bumper. 9 to go, Harvick puts the bumper to Kyle Busch. The #18 holds the lead.

8 to go, Harvick puts the bumper to him in turn 4. Harvick pushes him into turn 1. Kyle Busch skates up into the marbles. Harvick takes the lead!

“I didn’t want to wreck him. But, I didn’t want to waste a bunch of time behind him,” Kevin Harvick tells NBC on the front stretch after the win.

“With a faster car, I’m not sure he had to do it. But, he did. It’s fine. How you race is how you get raced,” Kyle Busch comments after his runner-up finish.
