Bobby Pierce: Off to the races!

As Dunn-Benson Motorsports boycotts WRG, Bobby Pierce is set to run World of Outlaws events in his family owned machine

On June 9th, 2018, Bobby Pierce and Dunn-Benson Motorsports rolled into Eldora Speedway. The Dirt Late Model Dream paid $100,000 to the winner and was sanctioned by DIRTcar UMP, a World Racing Group subsidiary.

On June 18th, it was announced via a WRG pr that Bobby Pierce had failed the tire test from the event. The team was disqualified and hit with a large fine.

Purse money of $13,640 was held. The team was also fined $13,640 on top of being hit with a tire analysis fee of $1,690. In total, the fine totaled a loss of $28,970 for Dunn-Benson Motorsports.

Note: As of 2016, a single tire test from Blue Ridge Labs came at the cost of $85.

Dunn-Benson Motorsports appealed that fine and penalty. On June 20th, it was announced that the North Carolina team had won the appeal. All crew members and the driver passed a polygraph test about whether or not any member cheated up the tires.

The penalty was reduced to the minimum fine of just $2,000. The tire analysis fee remained on the bill at $1,690. In total, the fine is now $3,690, a reduction of $25,280.

On July 23, Dunn-Benson Motorsports released a statement that the team would not be entering any event sanctioned by the World Racing Group for the remainder of 2018. This includes DIRTcar UMP and World of Outlaws Late Model Series races.

Bob Pierce Racing is back in action! Dunn-Benson Motorsports has pulled out of all WRG events. As a result, Bobby Pierce is set to drive his family owned machine in a handful of WRG races he already planned to attend for 2018. While it might look like the former #32 Bob Pierce Race Cars machine, it’s a Rocket Chassis.

Meanwhile, the Dunn-Benson Motorsports machine is sticking to Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series events for 2018. However, that tour is out until the North/South 100 weekend at Florence Speedway August 8-11.

In between the breaks, Pierce will remain on the road. The Rocket car was put together last week with the help of some friends. He’s loaded his family own Rocket Chassis and they’re off to the midwest dirt tracks.

Bobby Pierce is set to run a string of 7 World of Outlaws events: Davenport Speedway (July 24); Fairbury Speedway (July 27-28); Plymouth Dirt Track (July 30); Shawano Speedway (July 31); Cedar Lake Speedway (August 3-4); Farley Speedway (August 6);

Beyond the events listed above. Pierce will run several other races in his family owned machine in 2018: Jacksonville Speedway (August 12); Eldora Speedway (September 6-8); Dirt Oval at Route 66 (October 12-13); Dirt Track at Charlotte (November 2-3);

Bobby Pierce posted the open trailer photo above with the caption, “Do what you got to do to race!”
