Fairbury Speedway filled with drama on Friday night of the Prairie Dirt Classic (VIDEO)

Brent Weaver vs Kenny Wallace; Kyle Bronson vs Bobby Pierce

Last night, the two-day show at Fairbury American Legion Speedway kicked off. There’s quite a few angry racing drivers in the pit area of the Prairie Dirt Classic.

The track was bad fast early in the night. Instead of heat races, qualifying sent the cars directly into 4 features races for each classes. Bigger fields on a fast track only added to the excitement.

The cushion was rough all night. However, the night ended with the best race of the year between Shannon Babb, Brian Shirley, Tanner English and Jonathan Davenport.

But before that, a few drivers were a little hot.

Brent Weaver vs Kenny Wallace

The Summit Modified Nationals field was divided into 4 main events paying just $500 each. The top 4 in each race would transfer into the main event on Saturday night. The 40-lap main event will pay $5,000 to the race winner.

Kenny Wallace lost a right rear tire in the fourth modified main event of the night. He exited the race track, hit the pit area and returned with a brand new right rear just before they went back to green.

Wallace changed through the field. With 3 to go, a caution was brought out. By this point, Wallace had climbed all the way to 5th. The last transfer spot was up for grabs in a 3 lap shootout.

Wallace went to the bottom in turn 1. He pulled alongside Brent Weaver in turn 3. He nearly cleared him off turn 4 but Weaver was able to hang onto his right rear of the corner.

2 to go, they ran ever through turn 1. Again, Weaver ran by on the outside off the corner. Heading into turn 3, Wallace followed Weaver around the top.

1 to go, Weaver and Wallace both run the cushion in turn 1. Off turn 2, Wallace looked to the inside. In the final corner, he dove to the bottom. It’s a slider. Wallace was clear for a moment but Weaver got to his right rear. Wallace left him room but the space was limited.

They made contact off turn 4. Wallace was clipped in the right rear. He then jumped sideways as Weaver ran out of room on the outside, he bounced off the outside wall. Wallace took the final transfer spot on the final lap of the race.

On the cool down lap, Weaver located Wallace. he ran directly into the left rear as the race had concluded. Weaver climbed the left rear and the front end was lifted off the ground several feet.

Wallace stopped on the track as Weaver drove by. World of Outlaws officials then pulled alongside both sides of the Weaver machine on UTV’s.

On his way back to the pit area, Kenny Wallace parked on the front stretch and climbed from his race car. He stood on the door and pumped his fists in the air in celebration of the great race. The crowd erupted.

“White flag in the air and the car in front of me jumped the cushion in turns 1-2.. Side-by-side down the back straightaway.. I threw a VERY clean slider in turns 3-4 and cleared him.. He’s mad,” Kenny Wallace stated via twitter after the race.

Kyle Bronson vs Bobby Pierce

Bobby Pierce was the overall fast qualifier. Again, the field was split into four feature races. The top 4 advanced to Saturday’s main event. The Prairie Dirt Classic will pay $30,000 to the winner.

Two Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series contenders, Kyle Bronson and Bobby Pierce were in a heck of a battle in the first feature event of the night. They traded slider after slider in a race for 2nd.

On lap 9, a restart saw Bronson put the slider on Pierce into turn 1. He took over the 2nd position.

2 laps later, Bronson jumped the cushion in turn 4. Pierce had a run heading into turn 1, he throws the slider. He’s clear by two car lengths. But, Bronson was on the gas early.

Bronson gets a run off turn 4. Pierce starts heading for the bottom of the track, Bronson does as well. Bronson leaned his right rear on the left front of Pierce as they both went up the hill.

Pierce slammed the cushion. The car bounced violently and came to a halt. Bronson scraped across the left side as he drove by. Pierce rolled to the infield and had to get a tow back to the pit area.

Pierce climbed from his car. As Bronson rolled by, Pierce flipped him off. Bronson went on to finish 2nd.

The 1/4-mile bullring put on a show in Fairbury, Illinois. They’ll do it again tonight.
