Hudson O’Neal sidelined due to shoulder injury

Rookie of the Year winner Hudson O’Neal is scheduled to sit out for the rest of 2018

‘The New Deal’ Hudson O’Neal will run one last LOLMDS race at Florence Speedway next week

Last year, Hudson O’Neal was crowned the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series rookie of the year at age 16. A month and a half ago, O’Neal claimed his first series win at Magnolia Motor Speedway.

Now, Hudson O’Neal sits 9th in the 2018 series standings. However, he’s been battling with a shoulder injury.

Following at trip to the doctors office, Hudson O’Neal has elected to pull himself from the seat. He will have surgery on August 15th. That will be followed by 4-5 months of recovery time.

While recovering, Hudson O’Neal will miss the 2018 Gateway Dirt Nationals event. He won the preliminary main event inside The Dome in 2017. This year, he was also invite to be a part of the dirt midget portion of the event.

Hudson O’Neal expects to return in 2019. His first weekend will likely be Speedweeks in February.

Just moments ago, Hudson O’Neal posted the following announcement:

“As some of you know I have been having shoulder difficulties. Finally deciding to see a specialist, Doc decided the best path to take is surgery. I can assure that this is far from my decision and desires but unfortunately this is the best action to take given the circumstances.”

“My last race will be The North South 100 at Florence Speedway! I will be out for the remainder of the 2018 season. My Surgery will take place August 15th. Recovery estimated to be 4-5 months long. I’d like to thank Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series, SSI Motorsports, sponsors and all of my amazing fans!”

“I will return for the 2019 season to the Lucas Oil Series with the same team! Thanks for all the great support this year and look forward to getting this little bump in the road out of the way.”
