Fairbury Speedway banner stolen

100 foot banner stolen following the 2018 Prairie Dirt Classic; Reward offered

Race track banners are not free as you exit the race track

Fairbury Speedway hosted the 2018 Prairie Dirt Classic last weekend. The World of Outlaws Craftsman Late Model Series event saw Devin Moran claim the $30,000 win.

The multi-day event took place in Fairbury, Illinois. It’s an annual crown jewel event on the 1/4-mile dirt track.

However, after the race on Saturday night there was a crime. A brand new 100 foot long semi-transparent banner featuring ‘Prairie Dirt Classic’ was stolen from the track on Sunday morning. The banner sat on the catch fence surrounding the track surface.

However, that banner was more than just race promotion. The banner doubled as an advertisement banner bought and paid for by longtime supporters of the event, Bank of Pontiac.

The bank with 8 locations including one in Fairbury, Illinois is now offering a reward for any information that helps locate the stolen PDC banner.

Fairbury Speedway announcement

The Illinois dirt track issued the following statement on Tuesday morning:

“ATTENTION EVERYONE, if anyone has any information in regards to who possibly stole this banner off of the catch fence in turns one and two…we certainly would like to talk to you!”

“It happened sometime through the early Sunday morning hours. Bank of Pontiac sponsored this banner and it was brand new for the PDC and would then be displayed the remainder of the season! What a shame, that some low life needed more than we did!

“It certainly would have been no easy task as this banner is 5’ tall x 100’ long. Bank of Pontiac will offer a reward to any information leading to its recovery or if such individual wants to kindly bring it back and leave it at our second street gate, no questions will be asked! You have until the end of the weekend.”

“Asking all my friends to please share my our post and try to get out banner back to FALS where it belongs. Private message me if anybody has any clues of the person that has it.”

“No charges will be filed if it is returned to us. Thank you! Start sharing please.”

Why?

That’s today’s course in how to be a bum 101.

Why do you want a logo? This is an epidemic at race tracks across the country. At least once a month I personally spot someone attempting to snatch a banner on their way out of the race track.

Perhaps alcohol played a role here but I don’t think that matters. I’ve never gotten drunk and decided to steal a logo. Drunk or sober, I’m not that needy.

I think fans are under the impression that these banners are new for each race. That’s not the case. These tracks and series depend on sponsorship dollars to fund your favorite form of racing. Stealing the banners doesn’t help. Perhaps they don’t care.

But, what could you possibly do with a banner that large? I’m genuinely curious to hear that side of your plan.

I guess the secret is out. Everyone knows that sponsorship banners look great inside your home. Those 100′ logos really help add a superb balance of transitional design and redneck *uckery to your living room.

Idiots!
