The winner will be entered to run in a Keith Kunz midget at the 2018 Chili Bowl Nationals
More than 100 racers are scheduled to compete in the Keith Kunz Motorsports Giveback Classic Presented by TRD, U.S.A. (Toyota Racing Development) at North Carolina’s Millbridge Speedway in October
With three months remaining until the two-day event, the entry list has swelled to over 100 competitors, who will vie to claim victory in the event and win a ride in a Kunz-prepared, TRD-powered midget at the 33rd annual Chili Bowl Nationals in Tulsa, Oklahoma, next year.
“We hoped that we would get a lot of interest from talented drivers across the country, but we never imagined it would be this big,” said Keith Kunz, team owner of Keith Kunz Motorsports (KKM).
“This race began as my way of giving back to the karting community, and to receive this much interest from across the United States is incredible. We can’t wait to get out to Millbridge Speedway and watch what I’m sure will be an exciting night for everyone involved.”
Entries will continue to be accepted until Oct. 1 for the two-day event, which will be held on Oct. 30 and 31. The entry list currently features drivers from 17 states – one as young as 10 years old – and is expect to grow to include more than 150 racers.
North Carolinian Brent Crews is the youngest current entry and the 10 year old brings a winning pedigree as a seven-time national champion sprint kart driver. Crews will match wheels with entrants as old as 50 years of age and drivers from across the United States.
This includes Texas racer Colby Horn, a 14-year-old driver who traveled with his dad to race at Millbridge over the summer to compete at the track in advance of the event. Current KKM driver Logan Seavey’s brother, Tyler, is also entered in the event.
The KKM Giveback Classic presented by TRD is open to non-national series drivers of outlaw karts with the winner of the main event getting a ride in a KKM-prepared, TRD-powered midget at the 33rd annual Chili Bowl Nationals in Tulsa, Oklahoma, next year. The Chili Bowl is the most heralded midget race in the world and Toyota driver Christopher Bell has claimed back-to-back wins in the event over the last two years for KKM.
The race will be held at Millbridge Speedway in Salisbury, North Carolina, where TRD has its chasis engerring facility.
It was announced this week that Hoosier Tire has also signed on as the official tire of the KKM Giveback Classic presented by TRD. In an effort to help alleviate costs of competitors, Hoosier Tire will give away a pair of tires to the first 20 drivers that win an open class feature event from Aug. 1 through Oct. 30 if they have already completed their paid entry form.
“We could not be more proud to partner with TRD and now Hoosier Tire for this event,” said Jeremy Burnett, owner of Millbridge Speedway. “To have Hoosier come on with us and help provide some of these competitiors with a pair of tires is an incredible gesture and it will hopefully encourage more drivers to apply and come out to compete in this one-of-a-kind event.”
