Tonight, the 2018 Dirt Million comes to a close. The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series event will be the highest paying event since the Eldora Million back in 2001.

Hot Laps

Scott Bloomquist was quickest of the eight hot lap sessions with a 16.940. Josh Richards was quickest in dash hot laps with a 16.818.

Heat 1 – Report

Tyler Erb and Earl Pearson Jr trail the pace truck ahead of heat race number one. Green, they run even into turn 1. Erb slides from the bottom to the top, he wins the race off turn 2.

Pearson closes the gap in turn three. Erb drifts to the outside wall, Erb gets a better run off the bottom.

They head side by side back into turn 1. Erb holds him off on the outside.

The leaders rub lightly off turn 4. Pearson pushes off the bottom and runs through the cushion. He gathers it up but Erb has opened the gap back up.

Heat 2 – Report

Shannon Babb and Chad Simpson will lead them to the starting line in heat race number two. Green, Babb wins the race to the bottom. Simpson slots in behind. Caution.

Green, Ricky Thornton looks to the inside of Simpson for 2nd. Simpson doesnt know he’s there. They bang hard heading into turn 1. Simpson is slow off turn two with a flat, caution.

Green, Babb leads by several car lengths into turn 1. They battle for 2nd. Babb drives away to win heat race number two!

Heat 3 – Report

Chase Junghans and Kyle Bronson set the front row for heat race number three. Green, Junghans leads on the bottom. Bloomquist follows him through on the bottom.

Lap 2, Bloomquist hits a rut into turn 1 and bounces up the hill. Bronson and Pierce look to the inside. Pierce is around Bronson into turn 3. Bloomquist holds 2nd.

Chase Junghans maintains the gap. He wins heat race number three!

Heat 4 – Report

Brian Birkhofer and Jared Landers line up first ahead of heat race number four. Green, several false starts.

Green, Birkhofer noses ahead on the bottom into turn 1. Landers looks to the inside in turn 3. They both slide up the hill and catch the cushion. There might have been some contact there.

Birkhofer slides from the bottom to the top in turn. Landers looks low but can’t get the drive off.

Lap 2, the caution is out. Landers is in the wall down the back. I think the caution was out before Landers hit the wall. A car had a flat. Someone probably didn’t see the caution lights and got into the back of him. The red is out and Landers is done.

Green, Birkhofer opens a gap to Eckert. Birkhofer drives off to the win in heat four!

Heat 5 – Report

Frank Heckenast Jr and Max Blair trail the pace truck ahead of heat five. Green, Heckenast wins the race to the bottom. Blair is on the gas around the outside. Blair wins the race off turn 2 on the top!

Lap 4, Jimmy Owens has joined the battle. Owens looks to the inside of Heckenast. They make contact. Heckenast has a fender rub on the left front.

Owens takes the position. He sets sights on the race leader.

1 to go, Owens looks to the inside for the lead. Blair holds him off on the outside.

Max Blair wins heat five as the crowd erupts!

Heat 6 – Report

Dale McDowell and Chris Ferguson lead them to the flag stand for heat six. Green, McDowell leads by two car lengths into turn 1.

Lap 5, Ferguson heads to the cushion in turn 1. He comes off the corner right on the bumper of McDowell. McDowell opens the gap back up off turn 4.

Heat 7 – Report

Brandon Sheppard and Gordy Gundaker line up on the front row for heat seven. Green, Sheppard leads into turn 1.

Lap 3, Gundaker has fallen all the way to the tail.

Sheppard drives away to win heat race number seven!

Heat 8 – Report

Gregg Satterlee and Dennis Erb Jr trail the pace truck ahead of the final heat race of the night. Green, Satterlee just the jump on Erb.

Satterlee drives away. He wins the final heat by 10 car lengths.

Dash – Report

Don O’Neal and Mason Zeigler set the front row in the Dirt Million Dash. This race win set the top eight positions for the main event later tonight.

Green, Don O’Neal slides from the bottom to the top in turn 1. Zeigler crosses him on the exit of turn 2.

Zeigler has a run down the back. He looks to the inside of O’Neal into turn 3. Zeigler slides him and catches the cushion off turn 4.

O’Neal crosses him off turn 4. O’Neal leads back into turn 1.

Main Event – Report
Dirt Million

The main event is up next. The race winner will hit the road with at least $200,000. Don O’Neal and Mason Zeigler will lead them to the starting line. Four wide salute for the Ohio dirt track racing crowd and we’re off!

Green flag, Don O’Neal gets the jump. O’Neal hits the cushion and leads off turn two.

O’Neal opened the gap early. Mason Zeigler and Ricky Weiss have begun to chase him back down.

Lap 7, the yellow is out. Devin Moran has come to a stop in turn two.

Green, Don O’Neal heads for the cushion in turn 1. Weiss drives to the bottom. They run even off turn two. O’Neal holds him off in turn three.

Lap 9, same thing. Weiss has a run off turn two. He looks to the inside in turn three, new leader.

Lap 14, the yellow is out. Carpenter heads to the pit area.

Green, Weiss leads. Babb hits the cushion in turn 1. He’s around Marlar for 2nd. Babb has a run on the leader! He takes the position off turn 4. New leader, it’s Shannon Babb.

Lap 18, caution number three. Don O’Neal is slow on the track. Bloomquist heads to the pit area. Casebolt and Hoffman get new rubber as well.

Green, Babb leads. Marlar holds 2nd.

Lap 19, big crash in turn 1! Davenport, Lanigan, Junghans, Ferguson, Pearson Jr and more are involved. Davenport is on the hook as everyone else drives to the pits.

Green, Babb leads into turn one. Marlar holds off Richards for 2nd. Bloomquist is back up to 13th.

Lap 29, the fifth caution of the night. Pearson is slow on track.

Green, Sheppard and Weiss fight for space on the restart. Babb leads Marlar into turn 1. Pierce works around Richards to claim 3rd.

Lap 31, the yellow is out. Satterlee came to a stop on the track. Zeigler heads for the pit area.

Green, Babb leads Marlar. Richards reclaims 3rd.

Lap 50, Babb leads Marlar by 5 car lengths. He’s working lap traffic.

Lap 51, the red flag is out. Medical attention is needed in the flag stand. “Okay let’s do this, I’m back and still alive. It was a mud clod, it’s still all over my glasses,” Kenny the flagman says as he stands up.

Pearson, Casebolt, Dennis Erb and Lanigan head for the pits.

Green, Babb leads into turn 1. Pierce runs 3rd, he’s the only car in the top 6 making the cushion work.

Lap 63, Ferguson is slow. The caution is back out. Bloomquist has a flat right rear. He returns to the pits.

Green, Babb leads Marlar. These two continue to check out on the field. Owens is working the bottom, he’s around Pierce.

Lap 65, Nick Hoffman is around in turn 4. Bloomquist is on the brakes to avoid it, he lightly tags the outside wall.

Green, Babb leads. Owens gets a better restart than Marlar, he takes 2nd well before turn 1. Marlar and Pierce make contact. Heavy damage on the left rear of Marlar, he remains 3rd.

25 to go, Owens is all over Shannon Babb for the lead. Owens looks low off turn two. Babb holds him off.

Owens runs high in turn 3. He uses that to carry momentum off turn 4. Owens looks to the inside heading into turn 1. Owens slides him and takes the lead!

Lap 80, Marlar is slow on track. The caution is out. Richards pulled into the pits moments earlier.

Green, Owens leads Pierce. Caution, Tyler Erb is around.

Green, Owens has a problem! Flames are coming out of the exhaust pipe. Pierce is all over him. Owens is slow off turn 4! Pierce takes the lead!

Lap 85, Pierce is driving away from the field. He‘s taking a low entry into turn 1. He then pushes all the way up the hill until he slams the cushion off turn two. The car jumps violently each time. He’s doing that every lap and driving away.

Lap 89, Sheppard is slow on track. The caution is out again. Babb heads for the pit area.

Green, Pearson looks low into turn 1. He runs even with Pierce of turn two.

Pearson slides him in turn 3. Pierce is on the gas early around the top. Pierce slips between Pearson and the wall to hold the position around the top.

Back in turn 1, Pierce slams the cushion. The car jolts to the right and Pearson leads on the bottom. They come off turn two nose to tail.

Pearson opens the gap. Pierce closes it again. Pierce looks low but can’t make it stick.
