NASCAR emoji icons to be displayed on race cars during the playoffs

A large area of the race car doors will be used to showcase the select emoji representing the playoff driver

That headline sounds like a joke. It’s not.

NASCAR teams have started to release the paint schemes for this weekend at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. All of the playoff drivers feature an emoji of some kind within the wrap.

The 16 playoff drivers will have a unique emoji that will display when using a certain hashtag on twitter. Each emoji will also be shown on the race cars as well, surrounded by a white box.

The NASCAR driver emojis were introduced in in the 2017 racing season. However, they were not displayed on the door of the race cars last year. That’s a new element for the 2018 NASCAR Playoffs.

The Race Team Alliance is said to be conducing some data collection in regards to the spike of the hashtag usage. They are rumored to be using these hashtags to measure reach of the brand on social media outlets.

The NASCAR emoji release is expected to surface on Wednesday. However, the release of the paint schemes have shown us what to expect.

So far, the fans aren’t so fond of the idea based on the early social media response to the news. But, it does have an underlying purpose, I guess.

The NASCAR playoffs will begin this weekend at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in Las Vegas, Nevada. It’s still unclear if the NASCAR Xfinity Series drivers or NASCAR Truck Series driver will feature emojis.
