Tonight, the dirt late model racing show resumes in Knoxville, Iowa. Night two of the 2018 Lucas Oil Late Model Nationals is set to get underway.

Qualifying – Report

Scott Bloomquist is quickest at the conclusion of hot laps. He turned a 17.943.

Mason Zeigler will go to a backup car. Smoke started coming out of the back of his machine on his qualifying lap.

Heat 1 (Group A) – Report

Brent Larson and Matt Furman set the front row for the first heat race of the night. Green, they run three wide into turn one as Birkhofer looks low on row one, false start.

Green, Larson leads on the bottom into turn one. Furman slots into 2nd.

Lap 3, Furman looks low into turn 1. He’s clear. Birkhofer has fallen to 6th.

Lap 10, Larson is slipping through the field.

Furman drives off to take the win in the first heat race of the night at Knoxville Raceway!

Heat 2 (Group A) – Report

Rob Toland and Brian Shirley will lead then to the first stand in heat race number two. Green, they run even into turn one. Toland is off the throttle in the middle of the corner, Shirley powers by on the outside. Moyer to 2nd.

Lap 3, Moyer is looking for the lead into turn one. New leader, Billy Moyer. Davenport moves around Shirley, he sets sight on the leader.

Final lap, Davenport has closed to within 5 car lengths. He’s going to come up short.

Heat 3 (Group A) – Report

Mike Fryer and Scott Ward trail the pace truck ahead of heat race number three. Green, Ward leads off turn two on the outside.

Landers jumps the cushion. He loses a spot.

Lap 6, Ward leads Jeremiah Hurst by 3 car lengths. Hurst closes that gap, he’s on his bumper.

Final lap, Hurst is trying to get it done on the bottom. He’s going to come up short as he can’t compete with the high side momentum off the corner.

Scott Ward wins the final heat in group A!

Heat 1 (Group B) – Report

Austin Rettig and Morgan Bagley set row one for the first heat in group B. Green, it’s a slow start. McCreadie moves to the inside early but doesn’t make a run at the front row. Bagley powers by on the outside off turn two.

Lap 2, Rettig looks to the inside into turn three. He’s clear off turn four.

Lap 4, Rettig leads McCreadie and Bloomquist.

McCreadie closed the gap quickly but he’s stalled out. Rettig has begin to open the gap back up.

Final lap, there’s a slow car in turn three. The caution is out.

Green, McCreadie heads for the top into turn one. Bloomquist drives by on the bottom.

Final lap, Bloomquist is working the top. Rettig runs the bottom. Bloomquist is at his right rear off turn four. Rettig leaves him room on the outside.

They’re in a drag race to the finish line. Bloomquist wins it by inches!

Heat 2 (Group B) – Report

Bobby Pierce and Gregg Satterlee will lead them to the starting line in the second heat of group B. Green, Pierce gets the jump. He opens up to a three car length lead off turn two.

Jimmy Mars is around Satterlee for 2nd. Lap 3, Pierce gets tight off turn four. Pierce lifts and Mars closes another car length.

Lap 9, Pierce has opened the gap back up.

Bobby Pierce takes the win in heat two of group B!

Heat 3 (Group B) – Report

Lyle Zanker and Justin Duty trail the pace truck ahead of the final heat race of the night. Green, Duty gets the jump. He’s clear into turn one. Zanker hits the cushion and powers to the lead off turn two.

Duty fights back, he retakes the lead. Zanker is falling through the field.

Ricky Thornton Jr is closing on the leader. Don O’Neal and Jimmy Owens are closing on them quick. O’Neal to 2nd and Owens to 3rd.

Lap 9, O’Neal has a look on the inside. Lap 10, O’Neal has another look. Owens gets them both! Owens leads off turn two.

Final lap, Don O’Neal is all over Owens down the back stretch. O’Neal looks to the bottom into turn three. They run even off turn four.

It’s another drag race to the line. Don O’Neal wins by 12 inches on the inside!

Main Event – Report

Tyler Bruening and Frank Heckenast Jr set the front row for tonight’s 25-lap main event. Four wide salute for the Iowa crowd and we’re off.

Green flag, Heckenast leads by 4 car lengths in turn two. They run 3 wide for 2nd. The caution is out, there’s a car around in turn two.

Green, Bruening gets the jump on the Bottom. Heckenast heads to the top and Davenport runs the middle. Three wide for the lead off turn two. Davenport noses ahead into turn three.

The caution is out as Rettig is slow on track. Bloomquist heads to the pit area. Heckenast will lead them to the restart.

Green, Davenport hits the gas on the cushion. He’s got a run into turn one. Davenport cuts to the bottom. He pulls even with Heckenast but the #99 powers to the lead on the high side off turn two.

Lap 6, Heckenast has opened a gap to Davenport. He leads by 10 car lengths.

Lap 17, Heckenast Jr is gone. Lap 18, the caution is out. Jesse Stovall has come to a stop on the apron. Jimmy Mars has climbed from 12th to 4th.

Green, Davenport hits the cushion on the launch. He’s got a run on Hecknast but Hecknast clears himself at the flag stand.

Davenport cuts to the bottom. He can’t complete the pass. Sheppard to 3rd! Sheppard cane from the B main! Hecknast and Davenport are glued to the top. Sheppards runs the inside.

The caution is back out.

Green, they run even into turn one! Sheppard drives it deep on the bottom. He’s slides him, clear!
