Las Vegas Race Results: September 16, 2018 – NASCAR Cup Series

Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series race results from Las Vegas Motor Speedway on September 16th, 2018

Today, the first round of the NASCAR Playoffs is set to get underway in Las Vegas, Nevada. The 1.5-mile of Las Vegas Motor Speedway is set to host the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series.

It’s a 267-lap event. Erik Jones and Joey Logano are set to lead the field to the green flag.

Stage 1
Las Vegas Motor Speedway

Laps: 80

Green flag, Erik Jones gets the jump, he leads into turn one on the bottom. Logano slots in behind him. Logano has a run on the bottom off turn two. He drives deep into turn three, slides up the hill and takes the position. Jones falls to 3rd behind Kyle Busch.

Lap 30, Kyle Busch and Kevin Harvick are running down the leader. Busch and Harvick run side by side for 2nd, Harvick takes the position and sets sights on the leader. With ease, Harvick moves to the lead.

Lap 37, green flag pit stops are underway. Lap 39, Kevin Harvick pits from the lead. With the pit cycle complete, Harvick cycles back to the lead.

Lap 60, Truex has caught the back bumper of Harvick. The #4 gets loose off turn 4 and the #78 drives to the lead.

Final lap in stag e1, Martin Truex Jr leads Harvick by five car lengths.

Stage 2
Las Vegas Motor Speedway

Laps: 80

The field heads for the pit lane. Truex is first in and first off. Alex Bowman is off in 2nd.

Green flag on stage 2, Truex is clear before turn one. Bowman wasn’t all the way alongside Truex at the green.

Lap 90, the caution is out for debris. Riucky Stenhouse Jr blew a tire and got into the wall.

Green, Truex and Bowman are near even into turn one. Alex Bowman is looking for the lead on the bottom into turn three. Truex holds him off on the high side.

lap 112, Ty Dillon has a flat. The caution is back out.

The field heads for the pit lane. Brad Keselowski is the first one to the pit exit line. Harviuck is off 2nd.

Green, Keselowski noses ahead at the line. Truex pulls back even on the bottom into turn one. Keselowski gets the power down and leads on the outside off turn two.

Lap 125, Truex has run down the leader. Truex heads to the bottom in turn one. Keselowski pinches him a bit but it’s not enough to hold him off. Truex completes the pass into turn three.

Big crash! Harvick has blown a tire and collected the fence. Erik Jones comes into the scene with nowhere to go. Jones piles into the back of Harvick. Both NASCAR Playoff contenders are done for the day!

The field heads for the pit lane. Keselowski is first in and first off.

Green, Keselowski and Truex are even into turn one. Keselowski holds him off on the top. Truex skates off the bottom lane and leaves the door open for Kurt Busch.

Stage 3
Las Vegas Motor Speedway

Laps: 107

The field heads for the pit lane. Keselowski is first in and first off. Alex Bowman is handed a penalty for a tire violation during his stop. Bubba Wallace pulls behind the wall. Larson, McMurray and more stay out.

Green flag on the final stage, Larson is clear into turn one. Keselowski is making it three wide and climbing back to the front in a hurry on new tires.

Lap 178, Keselowski has run down Kyle Larson. He looks to the inside and moves to the lead on fresher tires.

Lap 183, William Byron is in the wall with a failure. The caution is back out.

The field heads to the pit lane. Keselowski is first in and first off.

Green, Keselowski has a push from his teammate Joey Logano into turn one. Keselwoski swings around Larson to lead off turn two.

67 to go, Martin Truex Jr has run down the leader. Truex is looking inside but he can’t complete the pass.

Lap traffic ahead, they both clear the lap car. 66 to go, Truex has a run off turn four. He side drafts him off the corner then turns hard left and cuts to the apron as he pulls even. Keselowski can’t defend with a returning side draft. Truex leads into turn one.

Lap 213, big crash! McMurray got into the wall. He went into the next corner and the tire failed. McMurray went backwards up the hill and made contact with the outside wall. Chase Elliott came into the scene with nowhere to go and was collected in the crash.

The field heads to the pit lane. It’s a slow stop for Martin Truex Jr. Keselowski and Logano win the race off pit road. Truex is off in 3rd. Kyle Busch is still on pit road as the crew repairs damage from earlier in the event.

Green, Logano has a big push from Truex on the bottom. Logano leads into turn one. Truex fights side by side with Keseowski for 2nd. Keselowski holds it on the high side off turn two.

Keselowski has caught Logano but the #22 is blocking and forcing Keselowski to run through dirty air. Keselowski falls back as Logano opens the gap.

35 to go, Kyle Busch is sideways off turn four! He slides through the grass. The caution is back out. Kyle Busch just lost it on the high side off turn four.

The field heads for the pit lane. Keselowski and Truex are first to the pit exit line. Logano falls to 3rd.

Green, Keselowski has help from Larson. Keslowski noses ahead on the outside into turn one. Larson moves up to lane three! He’s there! Larson is at the right rear of Keselwoski as they run three wide for the lead off turn two. They make contact as tire smoke billows from the right rear of Larson.

28 to go, Keselowski has a run off turn four. Keselowski looks to the inside in turn 1. Larson is on the gas hard around the top. Larson gets to his right rear and Keselowski isn’t clear to the wall. Larson holds the lead off turn two.

21 to go, Hamlin is sideways off turn four. He slides through the grass and the front splitter is bent in every direction. Hamlin pulls right to his pit stall and climbs from the race car.

Green, Keselowski leads on the bottom into turn one. Larson, Truex and Logano run three wide for 2nd. Logano holds the position. The caution is back out! Ricky Stenhouse Jr is in the wall hard down the back stretch. Stenhouse got loose off turn two and went around.

Green, Logano spins his tires on the outside lane. Truex looks to the outside. Larson is through to 2nd on the bottom. Larson slides up the hill and Ryan Blaney moves to 2nd.

Several cars make contact with the wall behind him. Jimmie Johnson and Alex Bowman both have a flat tire. Each of them head to the pit lane under green.

Logano tags the wall lightly off turn two. He’s trying to hold off Truex for 3rd. Penske runs 1-2-3 at the front.

6 to go, the caution is out for debris.

Green, Blaney spins the tires on the outside. Logano looks to the outside lane into turn one. Logano is at his right rear off turn two. They run even down the back. Keselowski drives it deep to the bottom on the inside.

Big crash behind them! The red flag is out. Regan skated up the banking and tagged his teammate McDowell. They but went around in front of the field. Kurt Busch is tangled in it as well.

NASCAR Overtime!

Green, truex is all over the bumper of Keselowski. Truex pulls to the middle heading into turn one. Keselowski leads by five car lengths over Truex as Logano falls to 4th.
