NASCAR Cup Series starting lineup for the Charlotte Roval 400

Today, the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series will take to the track for qualifying. The Bank of America Roval 400 starting lineup is due to be set.

It’s a tight track. It’s also a long way back to the pit lane after crossing the finish line upon the completion of a hot lap. NASCAR has told the drivers not to slow down after crossing the finish line. That’s not going to happen though. So, it’s going to be interesting to see drivers on hot laps maneuvering the cars on their cool down lap.

Round 1
Charlotte Roval

25 Minutes: Top 12 advance

The green flag is out on the session.

3 minutes in, Denny Hamlin is in trouble again in turn 12. He barely clipped the tire wall. Upon correcting it, he steered away from the tire wall and into the safer barrier. Heavy damage on the rear end for Denny Hamlin. In the practice session earlier, he had trouble with the curb in the same corner.

4 minutes in, Erik Jones almost did the exact same thing as Hamlin. He was able to avoid the wall. Bubba Wallace is around for the fourth time today.

10 minutes in, Chase Elliott is hard on the curbs in turn 12. Minor splitter damage for him as the nose piece shakes violently.

Denny Hamlin is set to return to the track. The crew and the driver were both active in repairs. It’s all taped up on the right rear. Hamlin is ready to turn his first lap of the session.

10 minutes remain in round 1, Brad Keselowski has trouble in turn 12. The tire barrier has been pushed back. Instead, he ran over the blue curb in front of it. Heavy damage to the splitter as well as other parts. Keselowski is 21st on the board.

8 minutes remain, Denny Hamlin is on the track. But, he’s in trouble. The car isn’t handling and he’s 27th on the board.

6 minutes remain, Erik Jones just turned his first lap in the session. He’s bumper Kyle Busch outside of the top 12.

1 minute remains, Kyle Busch is back on the track with an attempt to crack the top 12. He’s out of bounds in turn 17, they time will be disallowed. Kyle Busch has to run another one. That’s one’s not good enough. Busch is out in round one.

10 Minutes: Run for pole

Alex Bowman and Daniel Hemric are out early in the session. Bowman is the quickest of the two. Hendrick Motorsports is quick this weekend. HMS has three of their four drivers in this final round.

3 minutes remain, AJ Allmendinger jumps to the top of the board. 2 minutes remain, Kurt Busch tops Allmendinger by 0.040 seconds! Allmendinger spun the tires off turn 8, it cost him the pole.

Kurt Busch will start from the pole position at the Charlotte Roval!
