Pittsburgher 100 Results: October 7, 2018 – Lucas Oil Late Models

Pittsburgh’s Pennsylvania Motor Speedway results featuring the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series on October 7th, 2018

Today, it’s a rare Sunday afternoon showing for the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series. Saturday’s finale of the Pittsburgher 100 was rained out. Now, the green flag is set to drop in the daylight.

The top sixteen positions in the main event were already locked in following heat races on Friday. The remaining eight positions are up for grabs via one B Main. Several cars had issues, others left the speedway. Two B Main were initially scheduled, not it’s been cut down to just one.

The 100-lap feature event at PPMS will follow, paying $20,000 to the race winner.

B Main – Report

Bronson, Lanigan and McCreadie are the LOLMDS drivers that have yet to qualify for the main event. Bronson and Ferree set the front row for the B Main.

Green, Thornton splits Bronson. He noses ahead into turn one. Bronson didn’t get rolling at all. Caution. I think it was a false start.

Green, Thornton again leads on the bottom into turn one. Lanigan follows him through.

Thornton slides through turn three and drifts all the way to the outside wall. The rest of the top 3 do the same.

The track is extremely dusty. That’s expected for a daytime race. It’s dry slick, top to bottom. There’s no grip left after the sun has been beating down on the track all day. With just a few cars on the track, it dried up in a hurry.

5 to go, Thornton leads Lanigan by 10 plus car lengths.

2 to go, McCreadie slows. He pulls to the infield. He was in a transfer position. He’ll use a series provisional and start the main event at the tail.

Pittsburgher 100 – Report

Jimmy Owens and Mike Marlar trail the pace truck ahead of the main event. The race winner will hit the road with a earnings of $20,000.

It’s a special six wide salute for the Pennsylvania dirt track racing crowd. After three days, we’re ready for the start!

Green flag, Marlar noses ahead into turn one on the top. Sheppard follows him through to 2nd. Owens to 3rd.

Lap 14, Marlar has a flat right rear down the back. The caution is out.

Green, Don O’Neal scraps the wall at the flag stand. He losses several spots as ge struggles to get going.

At the front, Sheppard leads. Owens fights off pressure from Richards.

Lap 17, Boom Briggs is slow on the front stretch. He broke a bar, his night is done.

Green, Sheppard leads by two car lengths at the flag stand. Owens holds 2nd once again. Marlar is in a hurry as he climbs back through the field, he’s three wide, lap after lap.

Lap 21, the caution is out. Hodgkiss spins in turn three.

Green, Sheppards leads. He opens the gap up to the pack in a hurry.

Lap 33, Owens has run down the leader. They race bumper to bumper through lap traffic.

Lap 36, slow car in turn four. The caution is out. Several cars head for the pit lane including Bronson and Pearson. Bronson has a hole in the radiator hose.

Green, Sheppard continues to lead. Richards struggles off turn two. Bloomquist has a look into turn three on the bottom.

The leaders spread out.

Lap 44, slow car in turn four. The caution is out. Several cars to the pits.

Green, Sheppard leads. Don O’Neal is around in turn one. Caution.

Green, caution. Debris is on the track.

Green, Sheppard leads. Richards is nearly clear of Owens at the flag stand. Owens fights back on the top in turn one to hold the position.

Lap 46, Zeigler spins in turn one. Caution.

Green, Sheppard leads Owens and Davenport.

Lap 47, Bloomquist is slow. Marlar and Pearson run three wide to move by him. The caution is out. Bloomquist heads to the pits.

Green, Sheppards leads. Michael Norris looks to the outside of Davenport in turn three. He’s there, Davenport leaves the lane open as Norris takes 3rd.

Lap 53, the caution is back out. There’s debris on the track.

Green, Sheppard opens the gap once more.

Lap 60, Sheppard and Owens move to the bottom. Davenport runs the middle. Pierce is back in 8th. He’s running the wall.

Lap 70, Sheppard is running the very bottom lane into turn three. If there was an apron he’d be on it. It’s still moist down there but it’s rough. On the gas, the car jumps through the ramps. Owens moves to the middle.

Three completely different lines are being used at the front of the field. It’s going to get really interesting in a hurry.

Lap 80, Sheppard moves off the bottom. The window is open. Owens drives it hard to the inside. He can’t get it done off turn four. Pierce is running down both of them in a hurry!

Lap 86, Sheppard moves to the middle again. Owens slides him in turn three. Owens takes the lead! Pierce swings around him on the outside to take 2nd.

Lap 88, Sheppard is slow with a flat. The caution is back out.

Green, Owens leads Pierce. They run bumper to bumper for the lead! Owens picks the middle in turn three. Pierce heads to the top!

He’s there! The run even at the entry of the corner. Pierce is hard on the gas as Owens floats the middle.

Pierce is clear off turn four! Owens slots in behind to mimic the Pierce line.

He drives away. Bobby Pierce wins the 2018 Pittsburgher 100 in his first appearance at Pittsburgh’s Pennsylvania Motor Speedway!
