Talladega Race Results: October 14, 2018 – NASCAR Cup Series

Talladega Superspeedway race results featuring the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series on October 14, 2018

Today, the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series unloads at Talladega Superspeedway. Round two of the NASCAR Playoffs will resume on the high banks.

Kurt Busch and Clint Bowyer set the front row. Kevin Harvick and Aric Almirola set the row behind them. SHR has locked the top four positions ahead of the start. It’s a 188 lap race on the 2.66-mile oval.

Stage 1
Talladega Superspeedway

Laps: 55

Green flag, Kurt Busch is clear before turn one.

Trouble early for David Ragan, his car has lost power. No caution as he coasts off the race track.

Lap 11, Jeffrey Earnhardt is around through the tri-oval. The caution is out.

The field heads for the pit lane. Kurt Busch is first in and first off.

Green, Kurt Busch slides from the top to the bottom, he leads into turn one. Harvick also drops from the top as Almirola pumps the backs to let him in, Harvick slots in behind Bowyer. SHR runs one-two-three-four out of turn two on the bottom.

Lap 16, Paul Menard has a mechanical issue. His car was sideways in turn three. He heads to the pit lane.

Lap 30, Stewart-Haas remains in the top 4. Kurt Busch leads. Meanwhile, Team Penske runs 5th, 6th and 7th. Logano just got to the bumper of Busch. The #18 got aero loose and slid up the hill. Elliott tags on at the end of the Penske line. These eight cars have broken away from the entire field.

Lap 41, handling is an issue. Logano cannot hold it on the bottom. Off the corner, his nose washes up the hill if he’s on the bumper of the car ahead. Brad Keselowski thinks he has a loose wheel. He’s coming to pit road. Keselowski will got one lap down.

The move to pit road has broken apart the groups. Stewart-Haas Racing has now broken away from the entire field. Just four cars, they’re still pulling away from the field. This hasn’t happened in years.

1 to go in stage one at Talladega, the SHR cars are looking a little racy. Harvick is backing up to Almirola in an attempt to setup a run. Busch and Bowyer remain nose to tail.

Stage 2
Talladega Superspeedway

Laps: 55

The field heads for the pit lane. Ryan Blaney wins the race off pit road! He picked up five positions. Chase Elliott will be handed a penalty for a pit road violation. Pitting while pit road was closed, to the tail he goes.

Green flag on stage two, Blaney gets the jump on the outside, he’s clear into turn one and drops to the bottom.

Lap 62, Jimmie Johnson is sideways at the end of the tri-oval! He lost it on his own. He kept it from swinging back in front of the field. The downside of that is he also tagged the inside wall.

Many cars head to the pit lane. Fuel only for most. Blaney takes tires.

Kevin Harvick leads on the outside, he slots in front of Bowyer. Stewart-Haas has all four cars on the bottom. Kyle Busch leads the outside lane with Suarez on his bumper.

Lap 70, Kyle Busch side drafts Harvick. Suarez pushes him to the lead. Busch is clear but he doesn’t drop to the bottom. Lap 72, they’re still side by side at the front.

Lap 74, Kyle Busch has elected to drop to the tail of the field. The top twelve cars run single file.

Lap 100, Kevin Harvick leads his teammates at the front. Denny Hamlin and Joey Logano have tagged along with them, top 6 run single file on the bottom. The rest of the pack remains 15+ car lengths back.

7 to go in stage two, Kyle Larson is around down the backstretch. He blew a left rear tire. While spinning, the right front tire gives out and takes the fender with it. He spun just in front of Keselowski, no contact.

11 cars stay out, including the leaders. The rest of the field heads for the pit lane.

3 lap shootout to the end of the stage. Green, Harvick leads into turn one.

Kevin Harvick wins stage two at Talladega Superspeedway!

Stage 3

Laps: 78

The rest of the cars return to the pit lane. Harvick is first in, Suarez is first off. Brad Keselowski will be handed the lead.

Green flag, Keselowski leads into turn one. Paul Menard has a run on McMurray on the inside. McMurray pushes him below the yellow line down the back stretch.

McMurray will be handed a penalty for forcing a driver below the yellow line. William Byron moves to 2nd as Menard takes 3rd.

Lap 121, the outside lane is moving! Suarez leads the effort. Byron jumps off the bottom to catch the front bumper of Suarez. Lane three is forming as well.

Lap 123, Byron gets a shove to the lead. He’s clear of Keselowski. Byron drops to the bottom and leads the bottom lane.

Lap 129, Logano is on the bumper of Keselowski. They’ve got a run on Byron. Keselowski heads to the inside into turn one, he’s clear. Logano gets shuffled quickly as Kurt Busch and Harvick run 2nd and 3rd.

Lap 136, McMurray has blown a tire. He spins into the outside wall and comes to a stop in the infield grass. He’s now stuck in the grass. His teammate also blew a left rear tire.

The field heads for the pit lane. Kurt Busch wins the race off the pit lane.

Green, Kurt Busch leads Keselowski into turn one. Clint Bowyer checks up and lets Harvick slide in front of him. Stewart-Haas Racing has all four cars on the inside once again.

30 to go, a tire has rolled to the infield following a green flag pit stop. That will bring out the caution. Many cars head for the pit lane. Others are in fuel saving mode.

Green, Aric Almirola checks up to let Clint Bowyer in. He can’t get there, Elliott is pushing him to hard. Instead, Bowyer moves around Harvick and slot in 2nd. Once again, all four Stewart-Haas cars control the front of the inside line.

13 to go, Team Penske is active on the radio. They’re trying to form a plan for breaking up the Stewart-Haas Racing domination. 11 to go, Brad Keselowski pulls back to get a run with Logano. It works and then it doesn’t. Now, they run three wide for 5th on back. The front four are again pulling away.

3 to go, the race if for 5th. They’re still 3 wide. They’re going to try four wide! Alex Bowman gets loose, he slides across the field. A handful of cars are collected and the caution is back out.

NASCAR overtime!

Blaney, Harvick and Keselowski are out of fuel, they head to the pit lane.

Green, Kurt Busch leads into turn one. Aric Almirola has a push from Menard down the back. Busch blocks off turn four.

White, big crash in turn one. DiBenedetto is hard in the wall. The green is still out. Kurt Busch is out of gas in turn four! Almirola takes the lead coming to the line!
