Kurt Busch’s neighbor pranked him with a gas can after Talladega

Kurt Busch was left a surprise gift with a note after running out of gas on the final lap at Talladega Superspeedway

Fuel on the fire…

Unfortunately for Kurt Busch, he came up shy of of his second win of the 2018 season. Busch led the most laps of anyone on Sunday. After leading off turn four on the final lap, his car was out of gas.

After the race, Kurt Busch claimed two miss calls by NASCAR. First, he stated that officials called for an additional but unnecessary lap under yellow. Then, the crash into turn one should have brought out the caution for safety reasons.

Kurt Busch was credited with a 14th place finish following Talladega Superspeedway.

Today, the pain of the weekend has returned home to North Carolina along with him. A gas can magically appeared on his front lawn…

“Kurt, we thought you could use this.”

Aric Almiola comments on when Talladega became fun for him

Almirola: “A lot of people show up here and they’re frustrated that they’re racing with restrictor plates. Or frustrated that we’re pack racing. They come here with the wrong attitude, in my opinion.”

Aric Almirola was down 10 points coming into the NASCAR Playoffs event at Talladega Superspeedway. He’s leaving there with a win and an automatic transfer into the round of 8.

He went on to pick up the win after his teammate ran out of gas on the final corner. He had a run on Busch just as he ran out of gas. So, he might have beat him to the line regardless.

But, Almirola spent the entire day up front. He partially lucked into a win. Yet, at the same time, it was earned.

Aric Almirola is now only the 12th driver to win a NASCAR Xfinity Series race as well as a NASCAR Cup Series event at Talladega Superspeedway. But, his love for the speedway started in the Truck Race.

“I came here in a truck race with Billy Ballew. And I had Kyle Busch as a teammate. I had no job that year and was out of a ride,” Aric Almirola said from the Talladega Superspeedway media center.

“Billy let me run a handful of races that year. I came here [to Talladega] and Kyle beat me by an inch. And I led a lot of that race.”

“That race was the race for me where, kinda something clicked about Talladega. I learned some things in that race.”

“From that point forward, I’ve always showed up to Daytona and Talladega with the mindset that, ‘This is going to be fun.’ ”

“A lot of people show up here and they’re frustrated that they’re racing with restrictor plates. Or frustrated that we’re pack racing. They come here with the wrong attitude, in my opinion.”

“I show up to these tracks anxious, but excited and feeling that I’ve got an opportunity.”

Aric Almirola has won a NASCAR Xfinity Series and NASCAR Cup Series race at Talladega. His first NASCAR Cup Series win came at Daytona International Speedway. Now, his second career MENCS win comes at Talladega Superspeedway. Both wins have come on pedal to the floor race tracks.

“I’d like to win at some of these other tracks. That way people don’t just say, ‘Aw, he’s just a good restrictor plate racer.’ ”

“I can count maybe five or six races were we should have won this year. It didn’t work out and it didn’t happen. Today, the good lord was shining down on us and we were able to go to victory lane. It was a special day.”

“I don’t know if I would have beat Kurt. But, it would have been exciting. When I got to his right rear quarter panel, I heard his motor just start to sputter,” Aric Almirola, the Talladega Superspeedway race winner concludes.
