Dirt Track World Championship race results from Portsmouth Raceway Park featuring the LOLMDS on October 20th-21st, 2018

Tonight, the 2018 Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series season comes to a close. The national dirt late model tour is unloading at Portsmouth Raceway Park. The 3/8-mile dirt track will feature a $100,000 payout to the race winner of the 2018 DTWC.

B Main 1 – Report

Bobby Pierce and Robbie Scott set the front row for the first B Main of the night. Green flag, Scott gets a slow start on the outside. That might have been deliberate as he tucks behind Pierce at the flag stand.

Scott is looking inside of Pierce into turn one. Scott is around. Doug Drown hits him nose first. The caution is out and Drown is going off on the hook. It will be a complete restart.

Green, Scott pinches the entry to turn one on the outside. He and Pierce bang doors into turn one. Pierce noses ahead. Zach Dohm takes over 2nd and Bronson moves to 3rd.

Lap 5, Scott is slow on the front. The caution is out.

Green, Pierce leads. Bronson swings around Dohm on the outside off turn two.

Bobby Pierce drives off to the win in B Main number one of the DTWC!

B Main 2 – Report

Scott Bloomquist and Dale McDowell line up on row one of B Main number two. Green flag, Bloomquist noses ahead on the bottom into turn one.

McDowell is hard on the gas around the top. He’s at the right rear of Bloomquist off turn two. Bloomquist leaves the lane open. McDowell drives to the lead on the outside off turn two.

Ferguson is running 4th. They take the top three. He’s working the top hard to clear Fouts. He’s the only one up there as everyone else runs the bottom. After several laps, he takes the position!

The leaders run nose to tail around the bottom. The top two have broken away.

Lap 13, the caution is out. Jude has spun.

Green, McDowell leads. The field runs single file off turn two.

Dale McDowell takes the wins in B Main number two at Portsmouth Raceway Park!

Non Qualifiers Race – Report

Only the winner from this 30 lap race will have the option to advance and tag onto the tail of the main event. Chase Junghans and Devin Moran will lead them to the starting line.

Green flag, Moran noses ahead on the top in turn one. He’s overshot the corner! Moran has it turned hard left and he stands on the gas to keep it out of the wall. Junghans gets by on the inside.

Moran tries to filter to the bottom in turn three. A car is already there. He spins as Moran cuts across his nose. Several cars are collected and the caution is out. Moran will go to the tail.

Green, Junghans leads. Rod Conley climbs to 2nd on the bottom through turn one.

Lap 10, Junghans leads Conley by 15 car lengths.

Junghans drives off to take the win in the non-qualifiers race! Junghans has elected to start at the tail of the main event.

2018 DTWC – Report

There’s a little bit if track prep going on ahead of the main event. They’ve worked both the top and the bottom. There’s also a few rain drops as well.

It’s a 100 lap main event at Portsmouth Raceway Park. The race winner will head home with a check for $100,000…

Heavy winds and heavy rained have rolled in just as the cars were lined in the staging area!

A day later….

It’s taken three days to get here and the crowd has thinned out a bit. But, the sun is out and we’re going racing in the daylight on this Sunday afternoon. They’re lined up in a four wide salute for the Ohio dirt track racing crowd. Brian Shirley and Jonathan Davenport trail the pace truck ahead of the start.

Green flag, they run even into turn one. Shirley drives it deep on the bottom. He’s clear of Davenport at the center of the corner.

Sheppard and Bloomquist are nose to tail and coming to the front. Sheppard just went three wide and in the middle, several times.

Lap 5, Richards to 2nd. He’s closing on the leader in a hurry. Lap 12, he’s there. They race through lap traffic.

Lap 15, Shirley is bottlenecked on the bottom lane into turn one. Richards drives it deep on the outside. They run even off turn two.

Shirley drives it hard to the bottom in turn three. He holds the lead and puts a lap car between him and Richards.

Lap 17, Covert is slow. The caution is out. Bloomquist to the pits and back out.

Green, Shirley leads into turn one. Richards and Davenport run side by side for 2nd. Richards wins that battle on the top.

Lap 19, several cars tangle in turn four. Bloomquist is involved. He has right front damage and heads to the pits.

Green, Shirley leads. Richards is all over him.

Lap 22, Richards is working the top. He’s there, clear. Richards leads.

Lap 28, Sheppard has climbed to 2nd.

Lap 32, the leaders are back in lap traffic. Sheppard is deep in the loose stuff in turn two. Shirley looks to retake 2nd on the bottom. They run side by side. Shirley takes it. Sheppard gets it back.

Lap 37, Bloomquist is slow on track. The caution is back out. Shirley heads to the pits from 3rd! Motor problem for the #3s, he’s done.

Green, Davenport gets the jump on Sheppard. He’s clear and up to 2nd before the flag stand. Sheppard is all over him in turn one.

Lap 40, Satterlee is slow down the back. The caution flag drops once more.

Green, Richards leads. Davenport holds 2nd from Sheppard. McCreadie is up to 4th, he started 15th.

Lap 44, Bronson is stopped. He needs a push to the pits.

Green, Richards leads. Most of the field has dropped to the bottom. Richards is pulling away quick.

Lap 60, Bobby Pierce is slow in turn two. The caution flag waves.

Green, Richards leads. Sheppard is fading. He falls from 3rd to 6th. Brandon Overton runs 4th.

Lap 66, McCreadie is slow. Four link bar is busted, his day is done.

Green, Richards open up a big lead out of turn two. Hawkins gets pinched into the tire barrier in turn three. Hawkins is around and the caution is back out.

Green, Davenport drives it deep to the bottom in turn one. He pulls even with the leader. Davenport can’t keep the power down off the corner. Richards swings back to the lead on the outside of turn two.

Lap 72, Ferguson spins in turn three. The caution is back out.

Green, Richards open a gap quick. The field is stacked up behind Davenport. Overton is trying to get by on the bottom, he can’t complete the pass.

Lap 81, Bloomquist is slow. He heads to the pits, no caution.

Lap 90, Richards leads by 10 car lengths. The field runs nose to tail around the bottom.

He’s on cruise control. Josh Richards takes the win in the 2018 DTWC at Portsmouth Raceway Park!
