NASCAR race results from Martinsville Speedway on October 28, 2018 featuring the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series

Today, the NASCAR Cup Series takes to the 0.526-mile race track in Ridgeway, Virginia. Martinsville Speedway hosts the opening race in the Round of 8 in the NASCAR Playoffs.

Kyle Busch and Clint Bowyer will lead the field to the starting line. It’s a 500-lap event, the final short track race of the season. Six cars were sent to the rear following pre-race inspection.

Stage 1
Martinsville Speedway

Laps: 130

Green flag, Clint Bowyer spins his tires on the outside lane. Kyle Busch is clear before turn run. Hamlin and Bowyer run side by side for 2nd. Hamlin wins that battle. Almirola lets him cut to the bottom into turn three, Bowyer slots in 3rd.

Lap 15, Kyle Busch leads Denny Hamlin by a full second. Bowyer has held onto 3rd.

Lap 30, Hamlin has climbed to the rear bumper of the leader. Lap 31, Kyle Busch runs wide in turn three, Hamlin fills the hole on the bottom off turn four. Hamlin completes the pass in turn one. Busch might have let him go. Lap 34, Bowyer gets by as well.

lap 44, Jeb Burton is on the wall in turn two. He blew a tire before hitting the wall. The caution is out.

The field heads to the pit lane. Four tires for all but Kurt Busch. Kyle Busch is the first car to the pit exit line. Logano is off 2nd and Hamlin falls to 3rd. Kurt Busch took zero tires.

Green, Busch and Logano run even into turn one. Logano noses ahead on the center of the corner. Busch gets the drive off on the bottom of turn two. Busch retakes the lead into turn three. Blaney is battling Hamlin, they’ve been side by side for multiple laps. Blaney takes 3rd on the outside.

Hamlin retakes that position quickly. Bowyer is the next car to beat on the rear bumper of Blaney. Blaney gets loose and Bowyer takes 4th.

Lap 71, Jimmie Johnson is wheel hopping into turn three. The back in steps out and he goes around under Erik Jones. The caution is out. Most of the leaders stay out.

Green, Kyle Busch is clear before turn one. Logano wins the battle with Hamlin to hold 2nd.

Lap 115, the leaders are in lap traffic. Busch picks the high lane to work the lap cars, Hamlin to the bottom. Busch bails on the top lane, he hands the lead to Hamlin.

Martin Truex Jr started this race at the tail of the field after failing pre-race inspection. He’s climbed inside the top 10 already.

Denny Hamlin wins stage 1 at Martinsville Speedway!

Stage 1 Results – Martinsville Speedway: 1. Denny Hamlin; Joey Logano; 3. Clint Bowyer; 4. Ryan Newman; 5. Martin Truex Jr; 6. Ryan Blaney; 7. Kyle Larson; 8. Austin Dillon; 9. Alex Bowman; 10. Brad Keselowski;

Stage 2
Martinsville Speedway

Laps: 130

The field heads to the pit lane. Hamlin is first in but Logano is first off. Byron came across the nose of Clint Bowyer as he was heading for his pit box. It looked like a bit impact though little damage on the #14.

Green, Hamlin misses a shift or something. Logano leads into turn one. Kyle Busch moves to 2nd.

Lap 218, the field is in the middle of a long green flag run. Logano leads Kyle Busch by 0.6 seconds. Timmy Hill heads to pit road, he leaves with the jack still attached to the race car. Hill drives around the track and back to his pit box. The jack stayed with him.

Lap 240, Austin has the hood up on pit road.

Lap 244, Denny Hamlin has run down Kyle Busch. Hamlin looks to the inside and Busch hands over the position.

8 to go in stage 2, Hamlin is coming in a hurry.

6 to go, Hamlin is on the bumper of the leader. The leaders race through lap traffic. Harvick goes a lap down. Logano is beating on the bumper of Johnson.

3 to go, Hamlin has a look to the inside. Logano holds him off on the outside.

1 to go, they run side by side off turn four. Logano holds on to win stage 2 at Martinsville Speedway!

Stage 3
Martinsville Speedway

Laps: 240

The field heads for the pit lane. Logano is first in and first off.

Green flag, Logano is clear by a car length into turn one. Hamlin drops to the bottom to control 2nd. Truex is stuck on the outside, he falls to 7th after battling for 3rd a few laps ago.

Lap 320, Jimmie Johnson went a lap down early in this race. Now, he and Almirola are running a very unique line for Martinsville Speedway. They’ve abandoned the bottom and moved up a lane. Each are moving forward.

Lap 340, there’s a threat of rain on the way. Truex has moved to 2nd. As Logano runs through lap traffic, Truex closes.

Lap 355, Martin Truex Jr has climbed to the rear bumper of Logano. Truex looks to the inside in turn three, Logano holds him off on the outside.

Several laps later, they’re still side by side. Logano is running a defensive line in the second lane. Truex can pull even with him on corner entry bu the outside momentum carries Logano back to the lead off the corner, lap after lap.

Lap 359, Logano gets loose off turn four. They’re side by side at the start finish line. Truex drives it deep into turn one. Truex takes the lead! Logano led over 200 laps.

Lap 366, William Byron is around in turn three. The caution is out.

The field heads to the pit lane. Truex is first in and first off.

Green, Truex leads on the bottom into turn one. Almirola gets into the back of Logano into turn one. The back end steps out but he saves it and holds 2nd off turn two.

Lap 381, Logano has closed the gap to Truex. He dives to the inside in turn three. Logano retakes the lead.

Lap 383, Timmy Hill is on fire! He drives it to the pit lane and climbs from the cockpit. That will bring the caution back out.

There’s a few takes on pit road. Clint Bowyer is the first car to head for the pits. Chase Elliott follows him, he wins the race off pit road. Elliott will restart in 9th.

Green, Logano leads into turn one. Truex holds 2nd and Keselowski moves into 3rd.

Lap 396, Kyle Larson is slow off turn two. Smoke billows from the rear of his machine. The caution is out.

Green, Logano and Truex are even into turn one. Logano noses ahead off turn two. Keselowski looks to the inside of Truex for 2nd, he takes that spot. Team Penske run 1st and 2nd.

Lap 418, Keselowski has a look on the bottom into turn three. Logano shuts the door, they make light contact. They run side by side for the lead. Logano lets him have it off turn two.

50 to go, Hamlin is on the bumper of Logano. He gives him a shot, Logano holds him off. Hamlin has a run on the bottom into turn three. They run side by side by 2nd as they race through lap cars. Hamlin uses the lap car as a pick and takes the position.

44 to go, Clint Bowyer is around! Johnson looked to his inside into turn three. At the same time, Suarez looked to the inside of Johnson. They went three wide and ran out of room. Johnson clipped Bowyer in the left rear.

The field heads to pit road. Keselowski is the first car on pit road. Logano and Kyle Busch are the first cars to the pit exit.

Green, Logano leads. Keselowski is all over Kyle Busch for 2nd. Keselowski pushes him up the track. Truex looks to make it three wide. Keselowski shuts the door and Truex pushes all over the back bumper of Keselowski. Kyle Busch holds the position.

33 to go, Kyle Busch brakes early into turn one. Keselowski dives to the bottom and takes over 2nd.

23 to go, Keselowski is on the bumper of the leader. 17 to go, Keselowski has a run off turn two. Keselowski drives it deep on the bottom in turn three. Logano holds him off on the top. Truex gets by Busch for 3rd. Truex is catching the leaders.

10 to go, Logano opens a gap of 3 car lengths to Keselowski. Truex looks to the inside for 2nd. Truex and Keselowski run side by side. Truex doors Keselowski up the track in turn three, he takes the position.

7 to go, Truex is on the bumper of Logano for the lead! He looks to the inside. Logano pinches him. They’re still side by side. 4 to go, they’re still door to door. 3 to go, Logano clears him into turn one and drops to the bottom.

2 to go, Truex pinches him at the entry to turn three. Truex noses ahead off turn four.

1 to go, they run nose to tail. Logano puts the bumper to him in turn three. Truex is loose. Logano pulls ever. Truex lights up the tires! Hamlin is coming as they crash coming to the line.

Truex is running into him on the cool down lap. Truex is pissed off.
