Kevin Harvick will run this ‘Fleek AF’ paint scheme in 2019 if he doesn’t win the championship

You think it’s a joke, right? Well, it’s not…

Kevin Harvick’s co-primary sponsor Busch Beer has promised to make it happen. And that would be awesome!

“Old guys will rule again at Homestead. In fact, Busch is so confident that Harvick will win that if he doesn’t, we’ll give millennials the v lit paint scheme they always wanted in a race next year. Don’t @ us,” Busch Beer announced in a tweet.

This season started started with a lot of discussion of the old guys vs the young guys. the topic surfaced in pre-season media coverage when Kyle Busch noted the old guys are forgotten in NASCAR marketing campaigns. That led to a lot of banter throughout the season.

Now, the V lit paint scheme which is millennial inspired will hit the track in 2019 if Kevin Harvick doesn’t win the championship on Sunday. Busch released the paint scheme to the media shortly after the tweet. The version they released is only a sample of what it could look like in 2019.

“Busch is a fun partner and they like to make things interesting,” Harvick told Motorsport.com. “It’s great that they have so much confidence in what we do as a team.”

“We do our best every time we get to a race track and this week is no different. It’s been an interesting year with a lot of the younger guys coming into the sport in a big way, but at the same time you can’t replace experience and fast cars.”

“We’ve been fortunate to have both. Hopefully, we can win and not worry about running the millennial scheme next year.”

The NASCAR championship race at Homestead-Miami Speedway

The 2018 NASCAR championship is set to conclude. It will bookend a 36 race season that began in January. Today, the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series takes to Homestead-Miami Speedway in Homestead, Florida.

Four drivers remain in the NASCAR playoffs. Those drivers are: Kyle Busch, Joey Logano, Martin Truex Jr and Kevin Harvick.

Three of the four NASCAR championship contenders will start the 400 mile race from inside the top-5. Then, there’s Kevin Harvick, who will start the race at Homestead-Miami Speedway from the 12th position.

“It’s not that big a deal if we can get our car driving right for Sunday,” Kevin said of his starting position. “We’re starting 12th, not last.”

Ironically, that’s almost the exact same thing Harvick said last year when he was in almost the same position following the qualifying rounds.

Kevin Harvick has been the season long favorite heading into the playoffs and all the way through them to this point. He’s collected 8 wins along the way, tying with Kyle Busch.

Worth noting: At the last 1.5-mile race, Kevin Harvick went to victory lane. 4 of Harvick’s 8 wins came on 1.5-mile tracks. You can add another if you count the 2-mile of Michigan. But, after the last win, NASCAR took all advantages of the win away. They also slapped the team with a $75,000 fine, suspended two crew members and took the playoff birth away.

NASCAR handed the L1 penalty to Stewart-Haas Racing after they discovered a spec spoiler that had been modified. It was skewed to the right which is designed to add downforce through the corner when the rear end yaws out.

Harvick came back the next week and grabbed the pole position at ISM Raceway. He was leading when he suffered a flat tire. But, that was a short track. Downforce is important. But, it’s not as important.

Homestead-Miami Speedway is the ultimate downforce track, aside from Michigan.

How’s Homestead going so far for Harvick?

This weekend, Joey Logano has been the standout favorite to win. In final practice, he led in fast laps, 5-lap averages, 10-lap averages and 15-lap averages. Kyle Busch was the top qualifier of the four drivers.

However, Harvick has been working and betting on really long runs. He turned his best 10-lap average, 13 laps deep into a run in practice two. Everybody else set their best 10-lap runs from lap 1-10 in their practice runs.

Additionally, Harvick has spent the bulk of his practice sessions on the bottom lane of the race track. Typically, the fastest groove at Homestead-Miami Speedway is right against the outside wall. Tyler Reddick smoked the field in the Xfinity Series race, inches from the wall for the duration of the race.
