On Saturday afternoon, the 9th annual Hangover race took place at 411 Motor Speedway. The track is a 3/8-mile dirt oval located in Seymour, Tennessee.

John Ownbey, the #J0 dirt late model driver was ranked 7th following group A time trials. That relegated him toward the front of the B Main.

The Powell Motorsports driver was racing for the lead as the LCQ got underway. He turned to the bottom lane of the race track and found himself running side by side for the lead.

It’s unclear if Ownbey caught a rut, the inside tire barrier, the berm or something else. But, right in the center of the corner the car began to quickly roll over.

The car barrel rolled several times. He rolled sideways up the banking in turn four before it came to a violent halt.

Luckily, Ownbey was not clipped by any of his fellow competitors during the crash.

“He was able to climb out of the car to the attention of the safety crews,” 411 Motor Speedway provided the initial information following the crash.

“That’s the extent of my knowledge of his condition,” the brief statement concluded from the Tennessee dirt track.

Scott James went to victory lane later that afternoon in the super late model division. Ownbey was transported to a local hospital.

The doctors discovered spot bleeding in the brain upon observation. As of 11PM they were under the impression that the driver had suffered a concussion.

Ariana Ownbey has provided several updates from the hospital…
