Seavey compares the Gateway Dirt Nationals to the Chili Bowl Nationals
There were a few unknowns heading into the 2018 Gateway Dirt Nationals. One of those was the new addition of the dirt midgets.
They far exceeded my own expectations. But, what do the drivers think about it? Specifically, how do that compare it to their own crown jewel, the Chili Bowl Nationals
I’d like to hear your thoughts, comparing the Gateway Dirt Nationals to the Chili Bowl?
“I don’t know how to compare them really,” Logan Seavey told RacingNews.co .
“Obviously, the Gateway Dirt Nationals is more of a late model event, where the Chili Bowl is only for midgets. You get a little bit more emphasis on the Chili Bowl.”
“For the first time running midgets, it was pretty good. The track exceeded my expectations on the way it raced. When we first showed up, I wasn’t sure how great it was going to race.”
“They made sure we had two grooves. It was a little rough. But, sometimes rough gives it some character and makes it fun.”
“We had a heck of a race. The midgets put on a good show, didn’t cause too many cautions and didn’t waste too much time.”
Comparing the Gateway Dirt Nationals to the Chili Bowl Nationals
I asked Logan Seavey, Kyle Larson, Christopher Bell and Ricky Stenhouse Jr that same question. Each of those dirt midget drivers spoke highly of the Gateway Dirt Nationals.
However, none of them see the indoor race in St. Louis topping the Chili Bowl Nationals. Sure, the Gateway Dirt Nationals can fit 3 or 4 times the amount of fans into the show. The growth potential is certainly there and it’s already larger from a crowd participation front.
But, even with the place sold out, the dirt midget guys are still loyal to the event in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
