Early on in the session, groups have formed on the race track. They took no time at all. The groups see a mix of manufactures opposed to manufacture or team specific groups. They’re jumping right in.

48 minutes remain, Joey Logano sits at the top of the board.

Crash in Clash Practice

44 minutes remain, there’s a crash down the back stretch! Chase Elliott, Denny Hamlin, Ryan Newman and Kevin Harvick are all collected.

The field got a run on Chase Elliott. They split him. Elliott tried to tuck back in line ahead of Ryan Newman. That hole was already closed. Elliott cut across the nose of Newman and spun himself in front of the field.

They’re taking a very long time to get Kevin Harvick out of the grass. The car isn’t torn up very bad. However, put it on the hook and dragging it back would cause damage.

NASCAR is allowing the team to haul out a jack and some new tires. I’ve not seen this before but it’s a good idea as all these teams are limited with cars. The Clash is an exhibition race.

18 minutes remain in practice, they still haven’t gotten the car out of the grass. A few cars are waiting to return to the track, they might not get that opportunity.

“I appreciate them helping us out. It saved us about $300,000,” Kevin Harvick stated back in the garage area.

“He kinda filled a hole that really wasn’t there,” Ryan Newman stated.”If they would have been towed back it would have caused more damage. It took a little bit of political effort but we got it handled.”

Several other drivers will be going to a backup car for The Advance Auto Parts Clash at Daytona. Denny Hamlin and Chase Elliott will both unload the backup race car.

Practice resumes…

New tires for Ryan Newman and Kevin Harvick and they’ve driven the cars back to the garage area. 12 minutes remain in practice, the green is back out.

“I think we’re done drafting after all that,” Austin Dillon tells FS1.

Daniel Suarez is around at the entry to pit road. We downshifted and the back end went around. No contact, he just did a 360 and came back to the garage.

Joey Logano wins Clash practice at Daytona International Speedway!
