Daytona 500 pit road crash was caused by team secrets

Cody Ware sheds light on the multi-car crash on pit road in the NASCAR race

Ricky Stenhouse Jr, Jimmie Johnson, Tyler Reddick and Michael Mcdowell went for the pit entry in the Daytona 500.

Initially, we thought Cody Ware and BJ McLeod were a part of the group coming to pit road. That someone just checked up faster than the other and spun the other at braking for pit entry.

That’s not the case at all. Ware and McLeod were not heading to the pit lane. They were told to stay low by the other teams but were not told why.

When teams came to pit road, the 200mph braking point caused issues. McLeod was surprised and jumped on the brakes. Ware then piled into the back of his teammate.

Both spun and piled into the back of the group. Reddick was sent backwards and he climbed over Jimmie Johnson before making contact with Ricky Stenhouse Jr as well.

It was insane!

Radioactive is a weekly video that takes fans behind the scenes with radio chatter. Ware pointed out what happened with a link to that video.

Cody Ware explains the Daytona 500 pit road accident

“Daytona Radioactive sheds light on what really happened. We WERENT pitting, we were told by the other teams to STAY LOW because they ‘werent’ pitting. Listen to Tab Boyd & Kes,” Cody Ware said on twitter.

Keselowski radio: “Those guys all started to pit and never waved anyone off,” the #2 driver said.

Byron radio: “They were keeping it a secret and that’s why they got ran over from behind,” Tab Boyd, spotter for William Byron said.

“They kept it a secret that they were pitting, we had no way of knowing to check up or do anything differently and everyone suffered for it,” Ware continued after the race.

“Me & the 51 were staying out, had we been told the leaders were pitting we couldve gone to the high line and this wouldn’t have happened, Tab Boyd’s chatter says it all,” Ware concluded.
