SWR Racing: Randy Weaver shuts down super dirt late model team

Tanner English and Randy Weaver comment on the closing of the team

At the start of the 2019 racing season, SWR Racing signed Tanner English. He would pilot the #116 machine for Randy Weaver Racing.

Randy Weaver Racing didn’t set out for a national tour. They had plans for a hit-and-miss schedule of regional and national events. Tanner English has a full-time job outside of racing. He works in HVAC. Any national tour would require a full commitment and a bold career change.

They rolled to East Alabama Motor Speedway for an unsanctioned event paying $6,000 to win. They came out of the gate with a runner up finish.

Next up, the team unloaded for a week at East Bay Raceway Park. They qualified for the feature event on all six nights of racing.

The highlight of the trip to EBRP came on February 9th. English led until the closing laps. He nearly held off a charge from defending LOLMDS champion, Jonathan Davenport. The two ran side by side, lap after lap. In the late stages of the race, English fell to 4th.

Following Speedweeks, the team has announced that they will be shutting down the program.

Tanner English comments on the closing of Randy Weaver Racing

“It is with great disappointment that I will not be driving the 116 going forward. There were some sponsorship commitments that didn’t come through, so Randy had to make the hard business decision to pull the plug on the 116. Trust me, no one understands the issues of running on a strict budget more than I do.”

“I want to thank Randy and Chip Stone for believing in me and giving me this opportunity. I also want to thank Daniel Martin, Cameron Weaver, Cary-Brittany King, Josh, and Colton for all of the dedication and hard work that was put in for speedweeks.”

“I also cannot thank my fans enough for sticking by me and being so supportive. I wouldn’t be able to do this without y’all!

“We are not sure on our 2019 plans are as of now, but we are working feverishly to put things together to make it our best season yet.”

“The #WhiteKnight will rise again and be more #HumbleButHungry than ever. Stay tuned.”

SWR Racing announcement

“Team co-owner Randy Weaver announced tonight on Twitter that due to a sponsor commitment that did not come through for the 2019 season, SWR Racing is shutting down its Super Late Model operation effective immediately.”

“Tanner English showed serious speed in the #116 throughout “Speedweeks” including leading most of the $12,000 to win Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series finale at East Bay Raceway Park on February 9 before slipping back late in the distance to a fourth place finish.

“In the tweet, Randy vowed to personally help Tanner as much as possible in his future racing endeavors. The decision to shut down the Super Late Model team does not affect Dream Racing Technologies or Outlaw Racing Southeast in any way and Randy will continue to field a Crate Late Model for his son Cameron throughout the ’19 campaign.”
