Practice – Report
Duration: 50 minutes
PJ1 has been put on the surface at Texas Motor Speedway. They did it correct as they installed the sticky compound on the second and third lane in the corners. The bottom 12″ of the track remain untouched by the compound.
It’s takes a bit of heat for the surface to come into play. Until then, it’s very slick.
A bulk of the teams are focused on qualifying trim. They’re just making single lap runs.
35 minutes remaining, the red flag is out for fluid on the race track.
Halfway in practice: 1. Jimmie Johnson (28.684); 2. Alex Bowman (28.668); 3. Brad Keselowski (28.701); 4. Joey Logano (28.809); 5. Kurt Busch (28.820); 6. William Byron (28.844); 7. Ty Dillon (28.849); 8. Ryan Blaney (28.874); 9. Denny Hamlin (28.889); 10. Daniel Suarez (28.894);
There’s a waiting game at the edge of the pit lane. New for this week, the center lane of pit road must be left open. Drafting will come into play in qualifying later tonight.
3 minutes remain, William Byron gets loose on the entry to the corner. He nearly lost the entire car at high speed. He saved it but he’s heading back to the garage.
Jimmie Johnson wins practice at Texas Motor Speedway!
The Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series will return to the track later this afternoon for qualifying.
