Texas Race
Stage 1 – Report

Laps: 85

Green flag, Johnson is clear before the flag stand. He drops to the bottom in turn one. They fan out 3 and 4 wide behind them.

Lap 14, Erik Jones is around off turn two. No contact but the caution is out.

Byron leads half the field to the pit lane. 10+ cars stay out including Johnson. Kyle Busch has missed his pit stall.

Green, Johnson leads. Logano takes 2nd. Kyle Larson is on the move in the outside lane. He’s just cracked the top 5. Busch is coming as well.

Lap 36, Johnson wiggles off turn two. Joey Logano closes to his bumper. Elliott tags along.

Lap 60

Lap 60, Jimmie Johnson hits the pit lane under green. Lap 61, Logano pits from 2nd. Logano has re-entered the track ahead of Johnson. They run nose to tail on the track.

7 to go in stage one, the top 10 cars have yet to pit. Logano runs 11th.

3 to go in stage one, Bowyer is the last car to the pit lane. The lead is passed back to Joey Logano.

Penalty: Commitment cone violation for Alex Bowman.

Ryan Preece is out of fuel on the final lap. Joey Logano takes the win in stage 1!

Stage 2 – Report

Laps: 85

Kyle Busch and Austin Dillon take two tires. Elliott is the first car off with four. Many cars stay out. Busch will restart 5th.

Green flag on stage two, Truex gets the jump on the outside line.Kyle Busch takes it three wide in the tri-oval, he runs through the grass but he’s still in the throttle!

Lap 97, Kyle Busch moves to 2nd. He closes on Truex in a hurry. Busch drives it to the bottom, he slides up and clear of Truex off turn two.

Lap 109, Chase Elliott is on the bumper of the race leader with four fresh tires. Elliott cuts to the bottom in turn one, new leader.

Lap 138

Lap 138, Kurt Busch begins the green flag pit cycle. It’s now Lap 144, Chase Elliott pits from the lead.

Lap 148, Kyle Larson has caught the wall off turn two after suffering a flat right front. The caution is out with a fire under the hood on the pit lane.

Race leader Kyle Busch, Johnson, Hamlin and 7 others head for the pit lane. Gas and go for Denny Hamlin.

Green flag, Hamlin and Busch run side by side for the race lead. Hamlin holds him off via the outside lane.

Gas only gets it done. Denny Hamlin rebounds from an earlier pit road penalty and wins stage two!

Stage 3 – Report

Laps: 164

Hamlin leads Busch and others to the pit lane. Gas only for Kyle Busch, he’s out first. Ryan Blaney will lead them back to green. Busch restarts in 8th.

Penalty: Hamlin and Harvick each have a pit road violation. Uncontrolled tire for each.

Green flag on stage three, Ryan Blaney is clear into turn one. Jimmie Johnson gets loose and skates up the track behind them.

Lap 195, Paul Menard is running 2nd. However, he heads to the pit lane early with a vibration. Laps later and we have another vibration as Kurt Busch heads to the pit lane under green on lap 205. Negative, that was a flat tire for Kurt Busch.

Lap 218

Lap 218, Ryan Blaney pits from the lead. There’s a wide mix of pit stop strategies in play. These drivers last pitted in lap 155. Blaney runs 12th with the partial cycle complete.

Ryan Blaney is in trouble. He’s up in smoke. The race remains green as Blaney returns to the pits. He joins Brad Keselowski in the garage.

100 to go, Kyle Busch leads Aric Almirola by 7 seconds.

Lap 236

The remainder of the pit cycle is underway. Hamlin, Elliott and others pit. 97 to go, Kyle Busch pits from the lead.

Daniel Suarez has been handed the lead. Kyle Busch is hot on pursuit with newer tires. Busch drives to the outside, pins Suarez behind a lap car and Busch retakes the lead.

80 to go, Daniel Hemric is around with a flat tire. The caution is out.

Kyle Busch returns to the pit lane. He’s out first with fuel only. He’ll restart 4th.

Green, Almirola and Jones run side by side into turn one. Jones takes the lean on the outside. Kyle Busch runs him down to reclaim the lead.

59 to go, Kyle Busch runs wide off turn two! He falls from the lead to 5th. He got loose on the bottom and chased it all the way up the hill but avoided the wall. 53 to go, Kyle Busch is in the wall off turn two. He heads to the pit lane.

Lap 294

40 to go, Chase Elliott heads to the pit lane. Erik Jones leads Hamlin by a half second.

32 to go, Erik Jones pits from the lead.

18 to go, Hamlin leads. Clint Bowyer is running him down. 16 to go, Bowyer heads to the pit lane from 2nd. 15 to go, Hamlin pits.

Erik Jones and Jimmie Johnson make contact. They both continue. 10 to go, Denny Hamlin cycles back to the lead. Bowyer trails by 2.5 seconds.
