Rick Eckert begins his 2019 season with a win in new self-funded operation

Since 2004, Rick Eckert had not missed a singe World of Outlaws Late Model Series race. However, after the 2018 racing season his team owner Paul Crowl sold off most of the equipment.

That left Eckert without a ride for 2019. He went on a search for a seat and was unable to locate it. Instead, Rick Eckert has fired up his own racing operation.

“So, I guess my best option at this point is to get some equipment together and try to be able to get going sometime in March if the weather cooperates. I’ll look at some schedules at some point, but we will probably stay around five or six hours from the shop and try to hit all of the larger paying shows in the area,” Eckert stated back in February.

For 2019, Rick Eckert has a new Rocket Chassis and a new Jay Dickens Racing engine aboard the Flying 0 dirt late model.

He has 51 races on his tentative 2019 racing schedule. It included a mix of races via the ULMS, Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series, Ultimate Super Late Model Series and World of Outlaws Late Model Series.

He unloaded at Williams Grove Speedway over the weekend for his third time out with the reborn operation. Eckert took the $3,000 ULMS win over Jason Covert, Mason Zeigler, Justin Weaver and Jeff Rine.

In addition, he’ll ran a few races beyond late model competition. Currently, eleven races are tentatively planned for the SpeedSTR.

What is a SpeedSTR? It’s close to a Silver Crown car. However, the engine come from a 4 cylinder Dodge Neon. In addition, it featured a cheaper version of a shock package.

It’s just a more affordable version of racing. The cars are run at Action Track USA in Kutztown, Pennsylvania.

The SpeedSTR cars run about $20,000 for a new roller.
