NASCAR changed the rules a little bit after the first practice on Friday. A wicker has been added to the rear spoiler with the idea of slowing the cars down. As of now, drivers only have one 50 minute session with the wicker installed.
Beyond that, everything else is new. The restrictor plate has been replaced with a tapered spacer. Aero ducts are installed, the spoiler is now 9 inches and the front splitter is also larger.
Cars now have massive runs when sitting in the tow of another car. When they pull out of line, they are smacked with a wall of air grabbing the spoiler.
That won’t come into play today as single car qualifying is up next…

Round 1 – Report
1 lap: Top 12 advance
The cars will head to the race track based on combined practice speeds from Friday. Slowest to fastest is the order.
Tyler Reddick won the NXS moments ago. Now, he’s on track again, qualifying the car for Brendan Gaughan.
Kurt Busch had his car chief ejected ahead of qualifying. The #1 machine failed the OSS inspection twice. He passed on the third time.
Busch failed due to spoiler angle and deck lid. He’ll serve a 15 minute practice penalty next week at Dover.
Busch’s lap was not enough to advance into round two of qualifying.
Aric Almirola was quickest overal in round one!

Round 2 – Report
1 lap: 12 cars run for pole
Multiple teams made heavy adjustments to the track bar after round one.
Chase Elliott wasn’t bottoming out in round one. The crew lowered the left rear to push the limits a little further. They went too far, Elliott’s car was dragging the track throughout his lap in round two.
Earlier today, NASCAR confiscated the rear deck lid of Austin Dillon. He’s the second to last car to take the green in round two, he’s significantly quicker than the other 10 cars thus far.
Austin Dillon will hold on to take the pole at Talladega Superspeedway!
The field is now set. The field will return to the track on Sunday afternoon for the race.
