Dover Race Results: May 6, 2019 (NASCAR Cup Series)

NASCAR race results from Dover International Speedway

Today, NASCAR takes the green flag in a rare Monday afternoon showing. Dover International Speedway hosts the Gander RV 400 on the 1-mile concrete oval in Dover, Delaware.

The cars are bad-fast at Dover. The new rules package has significantly increased the corner speed. The cars have more downforce with the same horsepower of last year’s event.

Chase Elliot and William Byron lead them to the starting line. Martin Truex Jr, William Byron, Ryan Preece, Matt Tifft, Ross Chastain and Reed Sorenson will go to the tail for various issues.

Stage 1 – Report

Laps: 120

Green flag, Chase Elliott is clear before turn one. Joey Logano works to the outside of Byron and follows Elliott to take over 2nd.

Lap 11, Denny Hamlin is moving backwards through the field with a loose race car. Johnson works under him off turn two. He clears himself to the wall but he wasn’t quite clear. Hamlin tags Johnson in the rear bumper and Johnson wiggles all the way down the back stretch. It was a huge moment but he saved it.

Lap 40, the competition caution is out. Chase Elliott was leading Joey Logano by a second when the yellow dropped.

The field heads to the pit lane. Chase Elliott is first in and first off.

Green, Logano gets the jump and noses ahead at the entry to turn one. He nearly go him but Elliott sweeps back to the lead on the outside off the corner. Logano slides Larson in turn three, Larson crosses him and takes over 2nd.

Lap 70

Lap 70, Kyle Larson is running down the race leader of Chase Elliott. He’s cut the gap to 0.3 seconds. Lap 74, Elliott works lap traffic. Larson makes it three wide around the top and looks under him off the corner but can’t complete the pass heading into turn three.

Lap 90, Alex Bowman and Martin Truex Jr have both cracked the top-10 after starting at the tail of the field.

Lap 105, Ricky Stenhouse Jr is in the wall with a flat right front. The caution is out.

The field returns to the pit lane. Logano and Byron are off first with two tires. Elliott is off 3rd with four.

Green, Keselowski gives a huge push to Logano into turn one. Logano is clear as Elliott falls to 5th on the inside lane.

5 to go in stage 1, the caution is back out as Quin Houff tags the wall with a flat tire.

It’s a 1 lap shootout to the stage conclusion. Green, Keselowski noses ahead on the bottom in turn one but he can’t hold it down there as we washes slightly up the banking. Joey Logano works around on the outside off turn two.

Stage 2 – Report

Laps: 120 (121-240)

Logano points his car to the pit lane, the rest of the field does as well. It’s a fake! Logano heads to the pit lane with Byron as everyone else stays out.

Green flag on stage 2, Keselowski leads into turn one. Elliott fights off Harvick to hold 2nd.

Lap 142, Chase Elliott has run down the leader of Brad Keselowski. It’s short lived as Harvick puts pressure on Elliott for 2nd, Keselowski opens the gap back up.

Lap 180

Lap 180, Martin Truex Jr begins the green flag pit cycle. Elliott and Bowman pit from 2nd and 3rd on lap 181. Brad Keselowski is in on lap 182.

Lap 185, William Byron leads Joey Logano. These cars pitted at the start of the stage. Chase Elliott runs 11th and Keselowski runs 12th.

Five laps later, Chase Elliott cycles back to the lead.

Lap 220

Lap 220, Alex Bowman has run down the leader of Chase Elliott. Bowman has been the fastest car on the track for awhile as he charges to the front. The #88 has found speed on the outside lane. Bowman runs high in turn three, a few feet off the outside wall. With the RPM up, he crosses under Elliott off turn four. Bowman leads on the bottom into turn one!

7 to go in stage two, Harvick is on the bumper of Bowman. The leader drops to the bottom lane to block. Bowman washes up the hill as he catches Paul Menard, Harvick gets to his inside. Bowman drives it deep into turn three on the outside and holds the position.

3 to go, Truex moves to 2nd. Now, he’s on the bumper of Bowman. 1 to go, Bowman cooks turn one, he washes into the marbles and nearly tags the wall. Truex is clear on the inside! Bowman fights back into turn three but it’s not enough.

Martin Truex Jr takes the win in stage two!

Stage 3 – Report

Laps: 160 (241-400)

The field heads to the pit lane. Truex is first in and first off.

Green flag on stage three, Truex is clear into turn one. He leads Bowman and Elliott. Kyle Busch brushes the wall behind him.

Lap 264, Denny Hamlin has an issue. The right rear tire is down. He can’t get to the pit lane. As he catches the apron in turn one, the car is around. The caution is out. Logano will lead the cars that pitted to the green.

Green, Truex holds the lead. Logano moves to 6th on the opening lap of the restart, he’ll be coming to the front with new tires.

Lap 320

Lap 320, Kyle Larson heads to the pit lane. Triex follows on lap 321.

76 laps to go, Jimmie Johnson leads. He was on the pit lane at lap 266. Truex runs 5th. Suarez cuts to the bottom of Johnson in turn one, he takes the lead.

62 to go, Daniel Suarez has the entire field 1 lap down. He’s the only car yet to pit.

54 to go, Suarez pits from the lead. Martin Truex Jr cycles back to the lead. Alex Bowman trails the leader by 3 seconds.

15 to go, Truex leads Bowman by 7.7 seconds.

By 10 seconds, Martin Truex Jr cruises to the win at Dover International Speedway! 11 cars finish on the lead lap.
