Swainsboro Raceway closed

The Georgia dirt track first opened in 1964

In 1964, Swainsboro Raceway opened for business as a 1/2-mile dirt track with grandstand capacity at 100 race fans.

The track is located at 586 Modoc Road Swainsboro, Georgia. It was later converted to the current 3/8-mile configuration.

In 2000, the track was purchased by Paul and Debra Purvis. The couple made significant improvements to the facility. They also built and opened an office which remained open from Monday thru Saturday.

In 2014, the facility added a go-kart track to the grounds. The tracks previously hosted 13 divisions.

In 2015, the track surface was slightly modified. The new clay added more banking in the corners of the stock car oval.

These days, the grandstand capacity has grown to 3,500 dirt track racing fans. They’ve stretched into the modern era by introducing three VIP towers with TV’s as well as air conditioning for the fancier race fan.

The Swainsboro Raceway website claims an average attendance of 2,500 in addition to an average car count of 102.

Today, the track is set to close. Track owners posted a statement regarding the dirt track closing via facebook. You can read that statement below.

Swansboro Raceway was host of the Schaeffer’s Southern National Super Late Models, Pine Tree 100, Fire Cracker 100 and Crate Late Model Southern Dream $20,000 to win at the Annual Turkey 100.
