Pocono Raceway inspection issues result in car chief ejections

Two NASCAR car chiefs have been ejected ahead of qualifying

Qualifying is up next for the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series. Teams will need to pass pre-qualifying inspection before taking to the track.

Qualifying will see groups of three cars take to the track at the same time. It’s not group qualifying as 15 second gaps should separate each car.

This is an impound race. That means that inspection this morning will double as pre-qualifying and pre-race inspection.

Pocono Inspection failures

Erik Jones and Chris Buescher were the only two cars that failed inspection ahead of qualifying at Pocono Raceway. The other 35 cars all passed on the first pass.

Jones and Buescher also failed on their second pass through the inspection line. NASCAR has ejected the car chief for both teams just ahead of qualifying.

Those two cars were able to pass inspection on the third attempt. Had they failed they wouldn’t have been allowed to take to the track for qualifying. Since they passed on the 3rd attempt, they will get to qualify and the times set will stand for their starting positions.

Matt DiBenedetto had no inspection issues and will get to qualify. However, he’ll go to tail as the team made an engine change.

NASCAR inspection rules
Pre/qualifying & Pre/race

Pocono Raceway inspection violations:

1 NASCAR Inspection failure: No penalty, the team gets to go to the back of the inspection line and try again.

2 NASCAR inspection failure: If a team fails twice, NASCAR will eject a crew member of their choosing.

3 NASCAR inspection failures: If a team failed three times then they lose a crew member. They also won’t be allowed to qualify.
