Michigan Practice
Report
Duration: 50 minutes
30 cars lined up on the pit lane before this practice began. They all went out at once. Teams are spending the early portion of this session to see how their cars handle in traffic.
Clint Bowyer was within a car length of Ryan Blaney heading into turn three. Blaney went to the middle lane as Bowyer pulled even with his rear bumper on the bottom lane. Blaney got loose and nearly lost a race car but he was able to save it. He drives it right to the garage.
Halfway in Michigan practice: 1. Daniel Suarez (38.119); 2. Clint Bowyer (38.164); 3. Joey Logano (38.291); 4. Kyle Larson (38.318); 5. Austin Dillon (38.391); 6. Kurt Busch (38.402); 7. Paul Menard (38.451); 8. Daniel Hemric (38.463); 9. Martin Truex Jr (38.465); 10. Ricky Stenhouse Jr (38.481);
In 2014, Jeff Gordon set the qualifying record at 34.857 seconds and an average speed of 206.558 mph. Today, the new rules package has added drag reduced horsepower. Suarez currently leads with an average speed of 188.882 mph.
5 minutes remain in the opening round of NASCAR practice, a train of 12 cars have lined up on the race track. It appears that a side draft is essentially a requirement when making a pass.
The main groove is the bottom lane. That’s not exactly the traditional line in recent years.
Daniel Suarez will NASCAR practice number one at Michigan!
