NASCAR has slightly adjusted turn five. Yesterday, the cars were rolling through the dirt while cutting the corner. That placed dirt and debris on the race track.

Overnight, that has been fixed. A four foot wide asphalt berm has been installed. That will keep cars off the dirt and the dirt off the race track.

Group qualifying is active for road courses. Today, we’ll see two sessions of knockout qualifying.

Sonoma Qualifying
Round 1 – Report

Duration: 25 minutes (Top 12 advance)

15 minutes remain, Ryan Blaney leads so far. However, only 8 cars have set a time.

10 minutes remain, Hamlin was trending in the green for 10 of the 11 corners. He lost it all as the back end stepped out off turn 11 and he lost several tenths.

8 minutes remain, Larson made up about 4 tenths as he weaved through the esses.

Erik Jones has a flat left rear. He didn’t get a lap in before the tire let go. It’s also tore up the left rear fender.

“I thought it was really loose,” Erik Jones radio.

Kyle Larson holds on to win round one of Sonoma qualifying. He ran a full second quicker than his practice times from yesterday.

Sonoma Qualifying
Round 2 – Report

1 minutes remains, Kyle Larson jumps to the top of the board. He made up a tenth off the exit of turn 11.
