Alex Bowman won his first career NASCAR race then got stuck in the grass (Video)

After 134 starts, Alex Bowman sat in victory lane following a tow out of the grass

With just a handful of laps to go, Kyle Larson chased down Alex Bowman from 3 seconds back and took the lead. The race appeared to be over.

Bowman got a run with 6 laps to go. He side drafted him off turn two and beat the fenders in a little. Larson’s momentum was scrubbed heading into turn three and Bowman shot back to the race lead.

Bowman went on to lead the remain laps and claimed his first Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series victory. The win comes in his 134th career start and his 5th year in the sport.

“I was tired of finishing 2nd. I don’t want to do that anymore,” Bowman told NBC Sports after the win.

“This is always what I hear, ‘You haven’t won a race.’ I think even Chad Knaus said something about me not winning a race. Everybody can stop giving me crap.”

On lap 10, a thunderstorm rolled into the area. Heavy winds and heavy rain postponed the show and saturated the grounds.

After winning, Bowman forgot about that. He pulled through the infield grass to celebrate. With a lack of tread, he was stuck in the grass on national television.

“I’m stuck. I made a really bad life choice. I came down here in the dirt and forgot about the rain delay,” Bowman said of getting stuck in the grass.

“They’re going to have to tow me out. Like, it’s not going anywhere. So, I’m the dumb guy that won the race and got the car stuck in the mud.”

“I can’t believe I did that. But, I guess you’ll have that in big time auto racing. I as just trying to go bogging out there. We needed some knobby tires to make that happen.”
