Huset’s Speedway offers $5,000 just to enter dirt race paying $3.6 million

New entries roll in for the dirt racing event due to a new $5,000 sign-in bonus; The race will pay $3.6 million or they can take the keys to the race track

Huset’s Speedway is set to put on a race featuring the highest payout in the history of American auto racing. The winner of ‘The Race’ will be handed the keys to the race track or a check for $3.6 million.

The event is scheduled for August 13th, 2019, the week after the Knoxville Nationals. A short four hour drive will put the teams in the pit area of Huset’s Speedway in Brandon, SD. The owner of the 3/8-mile dirt track is set to exit the sport with a bang.

This is not a joke. It’s very real and stands to be the largest race in all of auto racing, if it takes place.

The highest? Yes, the Indy 500 would become the second highest winning payout of 2019. Simon Pagenaud earned $2.6 million for his win earlier in the year at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

The Race: Entry fees / New reward

The entry fee for the race is set at a large $200,000. Cory Eliason with Rudeen Racing sent in their entry when the event was first announced last month.

18 entries will be required for the race to take place. If the event doesn’t reach that number, the green flag will not drop. That will result in other traditional options being used to sell off the property.

Naturally, the whole idea raised eyebrows of fans and drivers across the country. Many are under the impression that the race will never take place due to the high entry fee.

However, track owner Chuck Brennan has added a new elements to entice teams to enter the unprecedented event. Any team that enters will now receive a check for $5,000.

If the event doesn’t reach 18 entries, the $200,000 entry fee will be refunded to all teams who pre-registered. But, they get to keep the $5,000.

In that case, each team that enters will earn a cool $5,000 for a race that they didn’t attend and never actually took place. If it takes place, they still get to keep the $5,000.

Since that announcement, a new team has entered. Aaron Reutzel with Baughman Reutzel Motorsports is now on the entries list. That brings the official count to two entries but more are pending…

The track released the following update:

“Congratulations to our first two official entrants into THE Race: Cory Eliason with Rudeen Racing and Aaron Reutzel with Baughman Reutzel Motorsports. We are confident we are on the right track (get it) to getting enough race teams entered.”

“We plan to release the names of another 8 race teams in the next few days, getting us to 10 with almost 6 weeks to go. We’re so confident here at Huset’s Speedway that this race will happen, we are offering drivers who sign up $5,000 each for their trouble if the race does not happen.”

“That means that Cory and Aaron have already won $5,000 each!! Congrats!”
