Matt Kenseth retired from full-time NASCAR racing. However, he never retired from racing. Thus, Kenseth returned to his roots and unloaded int he pit area of the short track.

A caution on lap 173 of 200 in the event bunched the field. In the closing laps, Kenseth was working on Ty Majeski for the race win.

Kenseth ran the bottom as Majeski ran the top. The drivers races side by side for the final 5 laps.

On the final lap, Majeski led by half a car length into turn one. However, he lost momentum off turn two. Kenseth was presented on opportunity.

Kenseth closed the gap and drove it deep to the bottom in turn three. He couldn’t hold it down there. But, he wasn’t trying to.

Majeski was run up the track with door to door contact in the final corner of the 200 lap event.

Matt Kenseth went on to take the win. It’s his 8th win at the asphalt short track.

Majeski was the defending winner of the race. Kenseth hadn’t visited the speedway since 2016, where he topped Erik Jones for the Slinger Nationals win.

Matt Kenseth and Ty Majeski comment on the Slinger Nationals

Both drivers commented after the race at the bullring oval. Despite aggressive racing and contact for the win, both drivers agreed that it was good racing.

Matt Kenseth: “We got really fortunate tonight as our strong suit was short runs and Ty was incredible on a long run,” Kenseth explained from victory lane.

“He couldn’t get going as quick as we could and just opened the door on that restart. I kind of hung in there on the white flag and got to his door.”

“We got off (turn) two and we were side by side. So I had to drive it in there and see what was going to happen in the last corner for the win,” Kenseth concluded.

Ty Majeski: “We were dominant on the long run and were just way too tight,” Ty Majeski stated afterwards.

“Matt was able to turn the center and I was doing everything to try to keep him back and just didn’t have the front turn.”

“He got position on me a couple laps before that and finished me off, but that’s exactly what I would’ve done. They had a great race car tonight and we’ll just try to do better next time,” Majeski concluded.

Ross Kenseth (Son): “Holy crap!!! What a move, dad still got it!”
