Ryan Newman and Denny Hamlin crashed separately in two single car spins. Both of them have pulled out the backup car ahead of this session.

There was a blown engine at the end of NASCAR Xfinity Series practice. As a result, the track has been covered in speedy dry just ahead of this session.

Daniel Hemric failed pre-qualifying inspection twice ahead of this session. As a result, the team has lost a car chief for the weekend.

Qualifying – Report

Laps: 2

The field has been split into two groups of single car qualifying. The first group are the bottom 20 qualifiers from the previous week. They’re order in the group is set by a random draw.

Group 2 will consist of the top 20 qualifiers from the previous week. They’re order within the group was also set by a random draw.

Big problems for Alex Bowman. He’s the 13th car on the track but he’s up in smoke. A driveshaft sits on the race track. It snapped as he crossed the start/finish line.

NASCAR has elected to take time to clean up the race track. A decision appreciated by the rest of the cars who are set to qualify.

They aren’t just cleaning up the mess from Bowman. NASCAR is also blowing off the sand in lane three of the corners which was left over from Xfinity practice.

Erik Jones is quickest in group A.

Group A Times: 1. Erik Jones (27.967); 2. Matt DiBenedetto (28.008); 3. Ty Dillon (28.303; 4. David Ragan; 5. Austin Dillon; 6. Chris Buescher; 7. Ryan Newman; 8. Bubba Wallace; 9. Ryan Preece; 10. Corey LaJoie;

Group B

William Byron scrapes the wall off turn two during his qualifying lap. It’s a light touch. He did the same thing in the opening practice round but hit much harder that time.

Kyle Busch nearly tags the wall off turn two on his first lap. On the second lap, he fixes the imperfections and jumps to the top of the board.

It’s short lived, Brad Keselowski jumps to the top of the board. His first lap was his quick lap.

Brad Keselowski will start from the pole position at New Hampshire Motor Speedway!
