Denny Hamlin talks deposits and withdrawals with NASCAR competitors

“I didn’t necessarily lose last week” -Denny Hamlin

Denny Hamlin has made the NASCAR Playoffs in every full-time season of his racing career. That’s twelve championship opportunities.

The only exception is 2013, where he missed a bulk of the season due to back issues. In that same year, he won the finale race at Homestead. That first paragraph still stands.

Despite those opportunities, Hamlin has come up short in the championship column. 2nd is is best showing, which he claimed in 2010 as Johnson claimed his 5th championship, in a row.

Denny Hamlin currently sits 4th in the standings. He has two wins in the bag as they head into the playoff rounds in just a few weeks.

At New Hampshire Motor Speedway, Hamlin found himself in a battle with Kevin Harvick. He ran down Harvick and put the bumper to him.

However, he didn’t wreck him. The bump was tame on scales that we’ve seen from desperate drivers that need a win to clinch a spot in the playoffs.

Hamlin talks deposits and withdrawals

“It’s been a long time since I’ve felt this confident. Like, everywhere we show up to, we are race winning. All these race tracks, we’re so fast and we have a shot to win.”

“I didn’t necessarily lose last week. Let me just say that when it comes to the bigger picture, there’s times when you need to make deposits and withdrawals with your competitors.”

“I made deposits with Kevin [Harvick] over the years. And in 2016, he pushed me to a Daytona 500 victory. Instead of going out there and trying to pass me on the last lap.”

“So, there’s deposits and withdrawals to be made with your peers. I feel like last week, I perhaps made a deposit.”

On Sunday, Denny Hamlin drove to the win at Pocono Raceway.
