Tonight, the North/South Shootout kicks off the weekend of racing in Union, Kentucky. The half-mile clay oval of Florence Speedway hosts the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series.

$10,000 is on the line tonight’s feature race winner. On Saturday, the weekend will conclude with a $50,000 main event win at the Kentucky dirt track.

Heat 1 – Report

Long delay ahead of heat one for a medical emergency on the infield. A crew member for Austin Rettig was placed in the ambulance and transported to a local hospital.

Chris Madden and Kent Robinson set row one in the first heat race of the weekend. Chris Stapleton is a scratch.

Green, Madden leads on the bottom into turn one. Robinson cuts off the top and has a look on the bottom into turn three. Madden holds the lead.

Heat 2 – Report

Mike Benedum and Frank Heckenast Jr lead them to the line in heat two. Green, Benedum gets the jump. Rettig gets shoved to the infield but he’s back on track.

Benedum leads into turn one on the bottom. They run three wide for 2nd behind him.

Lap 2, Heckenast pulls to the number of Benedum in turn one. Earl Pearson Jr is nearly stuffed in the wall off turn two.

Heckenast takes the lead.

Heckenast drives away to win heat two!

Heat 3 – Report

Brandon Overton and Scott James trail the pace truck in heat three. Green, false start on James.

Green, Overton leads into turn one. Owens moves to 2nd on the bottom. James has a run off the cushion, he splits the middle as they run three wide for the lead in turn three.

Overton holds the lead but Owens is all over him. Move Owens to the lead as he completes a slider.

Jimmy Owens drives away to win heat three!

Heat 4 – Report

Devin Gilpin and Zack Dohm set the front row in heat four. Pierce starts toward the back after jumping the cushion in qualifying.

Green, Dohm and Gilpin bang fenders into turn one.

Gilpin noses ahead on the bottom. Dohm is on the gas around the top. He pulls even with the high side momentum and he’s clear into turn three.

Bobby Pierce started toward the back. He’s slicing through the field, high and low. A slider in turn one with three to go and he’s up to 3rd.

Zack Dohm drives away to win heat four.

Heat 5 – Report

Billy Green and Michael Norris head for the flag stand in heat five. Green, false start on Green.

Green, they run even into turn one. Green takes the lead off turn two. The caution is out for a spin in turn three.

Green, Green holds the lead by five car lengths into turn one.

Lap 7, Norris is all over the bumper of the leader. He heads for the outside and clear.

Heat 6 – Report

Tim McCreadie and Donald McIntosh lead them to the start in the final heat race of the night. Green, false start on McCreadie.

Green, Tim McCreadie is clear.

Davenport and McDowell battle for 2nd. McCreadie opens the gap and leads by a straight away.

Tim McCreadie cruises to the win in the final heat race of the night!

Report

Chris Madden and Zack Dohm set the front row for the 50-lap main event. Billy Moyer Jr will not start the main event as two emergency series provisionals were already used, he’d need a third.

Green flag, they run even into turn one. Dohm hits the cushion and he carries the momentum to the lead as they head into turn three.

Owens moves to 2nd. Madden falls to 4th.

Lap 11, Kyle Strickler is slow and the caution is out.

Green, Dohm leads. Robinson moves to 2nd around the outside. Owens is all over his bumper trying to take that spot back.

Several cars tangle in turn two. The red flag is out.

Green, Dohm leads. Robinson and Owens run side by side for 2nd.

Lap 12, Frank Heckenast Jr is slow with a flat tire.

Green, Robinson has a look for the lead on the bottom. Owens is working the top behind them.

Lap 15, Owens nearly pulls to the right rear of the leader off turn two. He slams the cushion, drives off the banking and under Dohm as they head into turn three. Owens slides him, catches the cushion, new leader.

Lap 25, Madden is working on Dohm for 2nd as Owens stretches the lead. Pierce is slow in turn one and the caution is out. He gets a push to the pit area.

Green, Madden retake’s 2nd. But, he’s not done. Madden pulls to the numbers on Owens but he can’t get the drive off the bottom. Owens holds the lead.

Lap 30, Moran is slow and the caution is out.

Green, Owens opens a gap of five car lengths in a hurry. He and Madden are a half straight away from 3rd.

Lap 38, McCreadie catches the cushion in turn three. He cuts under Dohm off turn four and slides him to complete the pass for 3rd in turn one.

Lap 43, Owens leads by five car lengths. He tangles with lap traffic in turn three. Owens is sideways! The caution is out and Owens will go to the tail!
