NASCAR abruptly suspends driver just ahead of race weekend

Tyler Dippel is a 19-year-old from Wallkill, New York. He pilots the #02 for Young’s Motorsports.

Dippel is currently 13th in the NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series standings. He’s collected one top-5 and three top-10’s after competing in all 17 races in in the 2019 season.

As of Friday, Tyler Dippel has been suspended by NASCAR.

In the report, it was noted that Dippel violated Section 12.1 of the NASCAR Rule Book. That sections marks a behavioral penalty noting “actions detrimental to stock car racing.”

He was on the entry list for this weekend at Canadian Tire Motorsports Park. The sponsors was set to be Lobas! Productions.

The NGOTS field has not taken to the track yet. Their first session is scheduled for a 9:35am ET.

As of 1am August 24, the team has yet to announce a replacement driver.

“Actions detrimental to stock car racing” is a very vague description for the suspension. However, several reports indicate this announced followed a traffic citation of some kind. At this time, it’s unclear where that violation took place or what the outcome was.

The NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series is on the track today with their second round of the playoffs. The series is will unload at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park on Saturday morning.


NASCAR suspension update

Young’s Motorsports has released the following statement on the suspension of their driver, Tyler Dippel:

“We understand NASCAR’s position regarding Young’s Motorsports driver Tyler Dippel and accept their decision. Our team was notified of the decision on Thursday, August 22. We respect the NASCAR policy as well as the process that NASCAR has gone through for this matter.”

“Young’s Motorsports is disappointed with the situation and will evaluate its future course of action in regards to Dippel.”

“We are finalizing our plans for the race at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway and will announce those details as soon as they are complete.”

Meanwhile, DJ Kennington has climbed into the cockpit of the #02. Kennington will pilot the machine at the Canadian Tire Motorsports Park.

“Let’s have some fun,” DJ Kennington tweeted as the announcement was made.

The first practice session of the race weekend was completed on Saturday morning. Kennington was 13th on the board.
