Ryan Newman and Daniel Suarez are tied for the final spot in the NASCAR Playoffs heading into the final regular season race; Newman issues a warning after contact
On Sunday, rain showers pushed the start of the Southern 500 to 10pm ET. They were set to race into the AM at Darlington Raceway.
Only two races remained in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series regular season. 16 drivers are set to advance and fight for a playoff spot.
Drivers with wins are locked in. Ryan Newman and Daniel Suarez are without a win. They sit in a heated battle for the final transfer spot into the playoffs.
In stage two, Daniel Suarez got to the bumper of Ryan Newman. He made a few attempts at a pass but the attempts were unsuccessful.
This time, Suarez had a small run off turn four. He side drafted the rear spoiler of Newman all the way down the front stretch.
Suarez wasn’t inside of his left rear. Newman cut to the bottom, Suarez ran under the white line. The didn’t make any contact there.
However, Suarez remained on his bumper. Newman got aero loose in the center of the corner and he went around.
“This #41’s got one coming,” Newman radio.
Suarez went on to finish the 2am race in the 11th position. Newman finished in 23rd.
Now, Suarez and Newman head into the final regular season race before the playoffs. They enter IMS tied for 16th.

“I’ll have to replay and watch it,” Ryan Newman told NBC Sports of the spin.
“I mean, he had me jacked up going into the corner. Then, they said he hit me.”
“You know, it’s pretty much uncalled for. He was struggling to catch me for awhile. He finally got to me and then just turned me around.”
“Whether he hit me or not, he turned me around. So, I guess what comes around, goes around.”
Now, Ryan Newman and Daniel Suarez will do battle at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. They’ll race for the final position in the NASCAR Playoffs.
“I’m good with that,” Newman concluded.

“My car is clean,” Suarez said
“We all race very hard. And he is very well known for racing extremely hard. He’s one of the hardest guys to pass out there. I have a lot of respect for him.”
“It was the second or third time that I was trying to pass him into turn one. He was just blocking me. And that time, I got him aero loose.”
“But, I didn’t touch him. My car is 100% clean. That’s kinda racing. He raced me hard, I raced him hard back.”
“I love Indianapolis. It’s one of my favorite race tracks.”
