Final Practice
Report

Duration: 50 minutes

45 minutes remain, Chase Elliott, Alex Bowman and William Byron are nose to tail on the track. This is a planned drafting session organized by Hendrick Motorsports.

Chase Elliott has driven away from Bowman and Byron. Even with the draft, he driving away on his own.

Erik Jones leads at the halfway point in NASCAR practice. Yesterday, Jones was signed to a one year extension at Joe Gibbs Racing through the 2020 season.

Halfway in NASCAR final practice at Indianapolis Motor Speedway: 1. Erik Jones (49.033); 2. Matt DiBenedetto (49.167); 3. Daniel Hemric (49.277); 4. Kyle Busch (49.294); 5. Kurt Busch (49.351); 6. Joey Logano (49.354); 7. Brad Keselowski (49.449); 8. Paul Menard (49.522); 9. Denny Hamlin (49.570); 10. Bubba Wallace (49.590);

This year, the NASCAR rules package is a bit different for Indianapolis. The horsepower has been reduced from 750hp to 550hp. In addition, there’s a taller rear spoiler, bigger front splitter and aero ducts on the nose.

Drivers are fighting major issues with dirty air. The added downforce punches a large hole in the air. That makes is so they get a huge run down the straights. But, in the corners, the air is dirtier than ever.

10 minutes remain, there’s a lot of cars on the track. However, there’s very few passes being made.

2 minutes remain, Ricky Stenhouse Jr jumps from outside the top 20 to the top of the timing sheets. Paul Menard does the same. Both of these runs had to have been in qualifying trim.

Denny Hamlin is hard in the wall! The session was already completed. The car went straight into the wall due to a mechanical issue. The car is on fire and Hamlin climbs out in a hurry.
