The former girlfriend of Kurt Busch has been sentenced and fined
Back in November, Patricia Driscoll was found guilt on two counts each of wire fraud and tax evasion. Additionally, one count of fraud.
Driscoll was the president of Armed Forces Foundation. The organization was designed to accept charity donations that would help military families.
The organization was deeply rooted within the NASCAR community. At the time, Driscoll was the girlfriend of NASCAR champion Kurt Busch.
Court documents stated that she, “solicited donations to Armed Forced Foundation by making representations that 95% of donations would go to benefit military members and their families.”
The document continued, “She knew that she was diverting significant portions of AFF’s funds to pay for her personal expenses. Such as her personal attorneys’ fees, her personal property tax, and her for-profit company’s expenses.”
Driscoll used more than $500,000 of the charity foundation revenue to fund her extravagant personal life. Jewelry, alcohol and other items were paid for using funds from the foundation instead of using those funds to help military families.
2017 court documents showed $3,000 per month in payments to herself. Those funds were to pay for such items as her car, gas and an employee’s cell phone.
Additionally, after making these payments to herself, she also failed to report the income on her tax return.
“She stole more than $500,000 and evaded paying her fair share to the IRS,” said Virginia Cheatham, prosecutor for the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia on the first day of the trial last year.
Driscoll sentencing terms
On Thursday, U.S. District Judge Richard J. Leon announced the sentencing for the guilty verdict. Patricia Driscoll will serve 12 months and one day in federal prison.
Upon release, she will serve 36 months supervised release with home confinement. Additionally, 360 hours of community service are required.
Driscoll will also be required to pay $154,289 in restitution. Another $81,779 will be paid in a money judgment forfeiture.
The Armed Forces Foundation shut down in 2016.

The are clearly no longer a couple. They broke up back in 2014.
After the breakup, Driscoll claimed domestic abuse. The claims were that Kurt Busch slammed her head against a wall in a motor home in the bus lot of at Dover International Speedway in 2014.
In February 2015, NASCAR suspended Kurt Busch despite a lack of evidence. He missed the Daytona 500 that year. He also missed the following two races at Atlanta Motor Speedway and Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
Three weeks after the suspension, the Delaware attorney general declined to charge Kurt Busch. NASCAR reinstated the driver.
