It’s the final day of the three day show in Knoxville, Iowa. $40,000 is up for grabs to the feature winner of the dirt late model race. The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series unloads for a one more night at Knoxville Raceway.

A brief rain shower rolled in during the B Main. It delayed the program by about an hour. The B Main picked up where it left off before the red.

But, that rain will likely change the track a bit in the feature. It’s going to be a lot heavier than originally expected. At least in the early portion of the feature race.

Main Event – Report

Shane Clanton and Darrell Lanigan set the front row for the main event. They trail the pace truck onto the half-mile dirt track.

Tyler Bruening ran the crate late model feature just ahead of this race. He’ll start 8th with a few extra laps of practice.

100 laps of dirt late model racing is up next. The feature winner will hit the road with a check for $40,000.

The field lines up in a four wide salute for the Iowa dirt racing crowd as fireworks blast. They reform 2 by 2 and head to the starting line…

Green flag, Clanton leads on the bottom into turn one. Lanigan and Weiss run side by side for 2nd, Lanigan takes that spot.

Lap 5, Clanton moves to the top. He leads Lanigan by 10 car lengths.

Clanton is on the cushion at the entry to turn one. Lanigan is entering in the center of the corner, sliding up and catching the cushion. Lanigan is closing.

Lap 10, the caution is out as a driveshaft has fallen onto the track.

Green, Clanton leads. Weiss moves back to 2nd on the bottom.

Lap 11, trouble for Frank Heckenast Jr in turn four and the caution is back out.

Coming to the green, Davenport has stopped on the track. He has a flat right rear. The point leader heads to the pits for a new tire as the lights are back on.

Green, Clanton leads. Lanigan is under fire from Weiss. Lanigan holds the spot.

Lap 20, Clanton leads Lanigan by six car lengths.

Chris Madden and Tyler Erb run side by side for 5th. They remain side by side for several laps. Madden can pull even in the corners but Erb gets the momentum off the top and holds the position off the corner.

Lap 22, the caution is out for a slow car on the apron.

Green, Clanton leads Lanigan. Weiss and Erb run door to door for 3rd on his bumper.

Lap 29, Brandon Sheppard slides Tyler Erb for 3rd in turn one. Sheppard started 9th.

Lap 33, Red flag! Don O’Neal, Josh Richards and Tim McCreadie tangle in turn three. All drivers are alright.

Green, Clanton leads. Sheppard has a run on Lanigan and Erb. He drives it deep into turn three and pulls even with Lanigan for 2nd. Lanigan holds the spot.

Lap 40, Clanton leads Lanigan by a straightaway. Sheppard is on the bumper of Lanigan for 2nd.

Lap 45, the red is back out! Ricky Thornton Jr jumps the cushion in turn three. He climbs onto the wall, rides it and as he slows the car comes off the wall on the roof. The driver is ok.

Green, Clanton leads. Sheppard has a run on Lanigan off turn two. He drives it to the bottom in turn three and clear.

Lap 50, the caution is out. This is the fuel stop. Crews will head to the front stretch to refill the tanks.

Green, Clanton leads Madden. Sheppard moves to the cushion and he rolls by Madden.

Lap 55, Sheppard has found speed on the top. He’s on the bumper of the leader. Sheppard moves drops to the bottom. He pulls even but Clanton gets the drive off and holds the lead.

Lap 56, Tyler Erb is slow with a flat left rear and the caution is out.

Green, Sheppard to the lead in turn one! Bobby Pierce is around behind them and the caution is back out. Sheppard will have to do it again.

Green, Madden gets the jump on the inside as Clanton spins the tires. Madden leads on the bottom in turn one.

Lap 65, Madden leads Clanton by 10 car lengths. Weiss runs 3rd. The top three run the bottom. Sheppard knocks the cushion in 4th.

Lap 72, Sheppard is on his way back to the front. He drives by Weiss and now Clanton. Sheppard is back to 2nd.

Lap 73, Clanton has a flat and the caution is back out.

Green, Sheppard works to the outside of Madden in turn one. He leads into turn three.

20 to go, Sheppard leads. Owens is coming in a hurry. Owens runs right against the outside wall, spoiler on the fence.

14 to go, Owens has a run on Sheppard off turn two. He cuts to the bottom and slides Sheppard into turn three. Right across his nose and clear.

5 to go, Sheppard has closed back to the rear bumper of Owens. He drops to the bottom in turn one. Sheppard pulls even but Owens gets the run off the corner.

Back in turn one, Sheppard does it again. Owens holds it.

3 to go, Owens drops to the bottom. He leads by two car lengths.
