Kyle Busch talks the incident with the lap car at Las Vegas; Reluctantly answers questions after NASCAR race

Last night, NASCAR rolled into Las Vegas Motor Speedway. It’s the opening round of the NASCAR Playoffs.

16 drivers have made it to the post season and are battling for a championship. Four of them will be eliminated after the first three races.

Kyle Busch started 20th and deep in the field. Early in the race, he ran out of room off the exit of turn two and tagged the wall.

The team pitted to repair the damage. Busch re-entered the track 2 laps down.

Over the course of the race, he took two wave arounds and was back on the lead lap. By the end of the final stage, Busch had climbed inside the top 10.

Busch was rolling to the top of the race track. He found speed against the wall and was flying to the front. Until he hit a road block.

Garrett Smithley was several laps down. He qualified a second and a half off the pace. That puts him getting lapped every 45 laps or so.

Kyle Busch approached the lap car quickly. He though Smithley would go to the high lane. Busch moved down and rolled the middle.

The lap car went to the middle instead. Busch stomped the brakes and was sent into a four wheel slide.

Busch drove right into the back of the lap car. He collected heavy front splitter damage. He had to limb it across the finish line.

After the race, Kyle Busch stood on the pit lane to answer questions for reporters.

How was the car?

“It killed it,” Busch referred to his car after the contact.

What happened at the beginning of the race?

KB: “I’m just here so I don’t get fined.

How about the heat?

KB: “It felt great.”

How do you feel about Richmond?

KB: “Nope. You can’t pass there.”

Are you ok with your chances?

KB: “Don’t care.”

Kyle Busch finally bailed. He turned to his PR guy and said, “I’m answering the dumbest fucking questions over and over. Am I good?”

They then pulled Kyle Busch aside and waited for the TV camera…

When the TV interview came around, Busch was ready to answer some questions:

“I was told he was going to go high,” Kyle Busch told NBC Sports of the incident with the lap car.

“I thought he was going to go high. We went middle because I thought he was going to go high.”

“It killed our day. We should have run 4th, probably. But, instead 19th.”

“We’re in the top echelon of motorsports and we got guys that never won late model races running out here on the race track. It’s pathetic.”

“They don’t know where to go.”

Kyle Busch is one of the 16 driver in the NASCAR playoffs. He came into Las Vegas with 45 playoff points.

“It’s pathetic to have to lean on insurance. My premiums are gonna go up.”
