Joey Logano on the crash with Daniel Suarez: “He wrecked me.”

Logano ran him down under caution to show him the middle finger; Suarez apologized after the race

At the drop of the green flag, Joey Logano showed that he had the car to beat on Sunday at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Logano qualified 22nd. The cars that qualified up front had less downforce, they were fast, for short runs.

The new rules package presented full-throttle racing in the early laps of the race. But, as the tires wore off, cars could no longer roll full throttle.

As the tires wore, downforce came into play. Logano showed he had more downforce by qualifying that deep in the field.

As the run went on in stage one, Logano drove right to the front. He went on to win the first stage of the race.

However, following pit stops, Logano found himself clawing back through the field once again.

Logano was rolling the high side of the race track. He had momentum, on everyone, off the corner. He looked the to the outside of Daniel Suarez.

At first, it looked as though Suarez would leave the lane open for Logano to blow by on the outside down the back stretch. Instead, Suarez closed the door and stuffed Logano in the fence.

On the caution that followed, Joey Logano began passing cars under caution. He was on a search for Suarez.

As he got to him, Suarez moved to the apron, expecting retaliation. Instead, Logano just stuck his middle finger out the window.

Joey Logano and Daniel Suarez comment on Las Vegas Motor Speedwya contact

Joey Logano: “He crashed me,” Logano told NASCAR.com after the race of the incident with Suarez.

“I wasn’t too excited about it. It wasn’t on purpose; he just made a mistake. It’s unfortunate that we were the ones that paid the penalty for his mistake,” Logano concluded.

Daniel Suarez: “I hate to blame people, but that was my spotter, just didn’t say anything,” Suarez said.

“And I apologized to Joey. He’s one of the last guys I’d really want to be in his way. But I don’t know. It’s my bad, though.”

“I know I’ve got one from him and he’s going to be good, but I don’t blame him. I would do the same thing,” Suarez concluded.

Suarez and Clint Bowyer

Joey Logano wasn’t the only driver to have issues with Suarez at Las Vegas. Stewart-Haas Racing teammates Clint Bowyer and Suarez started on the front row.

The two remained side by side through turn one, the backstretch as well as turns three and four.

Off turn four, Suarez used every bit of the race track. He ran wide off the corner and made contact with the left rear of polesitter Clint Bowyer.

“I got a fucking tire rub! That’s the 2nd time he’s done that,” Clint Bowyer said over the radio as his teammate made contact with him on lap 1.

“Literally ran us all the way to the fucking wall,” Brett Griffen, Clint Bowyer’s spotter responded.
