Kyle Busch reflects on comments regarding NASCAR lap traffic

Busch gets ‘beat up’ via social media after voicing his opinion on contact with lap car

Kyle Busch was critical of laps cars after Las Vegas. He made contact with Garrett Smithley with under 15 laps to go in the event.

Earlier in the day, Busch was two laps down. He rallied back to the top 10. However, miscommunication with lap traffic meant Kyle Busch drove right into the rear bumper of the lap car.

He bent the front splitter up pretty bad. The end result was a 19th place run as the damage saw Busch drop quickly outside the top 10 due to a lack of downforce.

After the race, Kyle Busch was critical of the slower cars. He attacked the drivers themselves and we later beat up for it on social media by the fans.

Soon after, both Garrett Smithley and Joey Gase jumped in to defend themselves.

Kyle Busch reflects on Las Vegas comments regarding lap cars

“I did see video of last week. It doesn’t matter what my opinion of it is. I get beat up on it anyway,” Kyle Busch addressed the media at Richmond Raceway.

“It would probably take me at least 12 hours to speak rationally. I don’t think they allow 12 hour media sessions. You get what you get, I guess, in 12 seconds.”

“Richmond is Richmond. Vegas is Vegas. It’s done and over with. We’re moving on.”

Kyle Busch is an extremely competitive person. After something happens, it takes him a long time to come down from the anger within the race. But, that same anger drives him in the car.

“Everything in this world is a sword. There’s a double edge to everything. I think some of the things that make me as good as I am and the abilities that I have behind the wheel can also be a little bit of a detriment in other situations. It’s the nature of the beast.”

Kyle Busch was right. Some of these cars are being lapped every 10-15 laps. I don’t agree that it’s the drivers, more underfunded race teams. But, NASCAR has rules against testing.

Would you like to see testing open up for the rookie drivers?

“That could be some help, yeah.”

Why respond on social media? Why does it matter?

“Because it’s the few that make particular phone calls, that I then hear about.”

“To me, it doesn’t. I’d much rather not be on it, at all. Period.”
